TeamWork - Rocket Science Online!

Fifty years of research literature on teams, identifies predictors of team success. What team members think, feel or do will almost certainly determine the success or failure of any team. Team efficiency is directly related to how individual team members complete their tasks.

You really don't have to be a rocket scientist to work with an online team. Scientific team studies are still in the infancy stages however mounting evidence supports the commonly held notion that teamwork is the most efficient way to produce results. A successful team structure encourages team collaboration with a clear goal and mission that utilizes the individuals knowledge, skills, tools and resources necessary to get the job done.

Individual attitudes can make or break the synergy of even the most motivated team. The behaviour of one person can change the group level emotions both negatively or positively. Even one member of a team who does not contribute to the team can destroy the purpose of the team through inaction or inadequate participation. Conversely, a motivated team with clear goals and a plan of action can move mountains.

Human history has scores of examples of people working together to explore, achieve and conquer. Every industry values teamwork skills and the results a well formed team produces. Unfortunately teams are rarely recognized as a single unit and typically rewards, bonuses or salary increases are based on individual performance rather than team performance.

Online marketing is no different. Teamwork and groups are highly valued and sought after by entrepreneurs and the companies who recruit them. Unfortunately, competition and individual achievement often overides any desire for working as a real team. Online marketing teams usually revolve around training and support. Experienced marketers building their business will share some of their knowledge that will in turn move their business forward.

The growth of the Internet over the last decade has created a global marketplace. Time zones and geographic locations offer challenges for multi-national teams. The benefits of having a diverse group of people with the right skills and expertise can skyrocket a business to success faster than an individual could accomplish on their own. Even so, competition reigns supreme among online marketers and teams are limited by old paradigms.

Cooperative marketing is emerging as the new marketing paradigm online. Still in its infancy, entrepreneurs who are moving into a more team oriented marketing model are still plagued by 10+ years of competitive habits. Old habits die hard. Everyone, who has been marketing online for any length of time, loves the idea of a team working for them. Not everyone is into being a team member contributing to a group effort. Those who have made the paradigm shift are moving marketing mountains.

Imagine working with a team that functions as a single unit. Individual business owners pooling their talents, skills and knowledge to support a marketing campaign for the benefit of all. Every team member using and sharing their existing talents and learning those skills they lack from their cooperative team members.

Cooperative marketing and teamwork is not for everyone. Teamwork requires commitment and consistency over a period of time. All to often, people hear teamwork and perceive that someone else will do the work for them and they don't have to do anything. Joining a team means working in your best area of expertise or skill and improving what you know and what you do everyday. There are no free rides, no matter how much we want them!

What would you rather do? Work with a team or do it all yourself? Food for thought.

Marketing online with a home based business, like any other career, requires a commitment to learning and putting the knowledge into action. There are "secrets" to learn, and "actions" to take to keep moving to the next level in business and in life. The greatest secret that I learned is that working online in a home based business doesn't mean you are working alone. People, just like you, have been my greatest inspiration. It has not always been easy, but it has been fun! Raising a family, working full time offline, and part time online presents many challenges. Balance is the greatest challenge and the greatest reward. 858-926-5445 Skype ID: paulette3679

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - [quote:31qpen1j]This is just my opinion, but I consider the prospective categories, Online Marketing, Internet Marketing and Online Promotion, as being pretty much one and the same - just different words that different people use.[/quote:31qpen1j] I completely agree! Those are all just "internet marketing" as far as I am concerned. And I normally would have voted for internet marketing, however I chose social media marketing simply because there are more than enough IM forums out there already.
Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Everyone, 2009 is a new year and I'd like to create a new forum category to jazz things up! In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category. I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above? Thanks
Re: Should Evan add a "Social Media Marketing" category to the f Re: Should Evan add a "Social Media Marketing" category to the f - [quote="BuzzAroundBooks":p78047w2]Just as an update, Evan has extended the poll's expiration date and says he'd like to see at least 25 "yes" votes before implementing the new category. Moreover, it would probably be called "Online Marketing" instead of Social Media Marketing".[/quote:p78047w2] Okay - I have a request -- can the title be changed to "Online Marketing"? The reason I'm asking is because people may not know what social media marketing is , while that would make me vote for it to learn more, but not every thinks like that. Also, online marketing could capture more attention when people spot in on the list. Shri
