Financial Peace: Living from the Inside Out
We've heard this idea in network marketing: people don't buy your product, they buy you.
Others join your business because they want to be like you and have what you have. Perhaps they long for your level of fitness, the kind of home you live in or your freedom to travel. Yet these are only surface wants and desires (which vary from person to person) that point to a deeper reality we all aspire to experience: peace of mind, joy, a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
When people "buy" you, they buy your consciousness: they want to dwell where you reside, not financially or physically, but emotionally, mentally and perhaps spiritually.
More than anything, the networking profession attracts people who are yearning for financial peace. How do we achieve this state of consciousness?
Financial peace is possible anytime, regardless of the amount of money we have, as long as we are truthful about our circumstances, drop resistance toward them and feel gratitude for what we have. No matter how little it is, this acceptance of sufficiency will free up our focus and awareness to see opportunities for growing what we have. If we believe there is enough, we feel empowered to contribute and serve the needs around us, which is always what increases our earning power.
There is no doubt that our relationship to money is shifting these days. We are healing fear-based behaviors such as hoarding, overspending or high-risk leveraging of our finances. More and more people are abandoning the deferred-life plan-doing what they have to do for forty years so they can do what they want to do after they retire. We are learning that money is an energy source, an amplifier of who we are and a tool for fulfilling our purpose.
"I believe the world is experiencing a spiritual awakening that is unprecedented," says our publisher Bob Proctor in his foreword to Karen Russo's The Money Keys. "Millions of people are becoming aware of the truth that our well-being isn't dependent upon anything outside of us; everything we need is inside. We've been taught to live through our physical senses ... we can hear, see, smell, taste and touch. [...] Why didn't anyone ever teach us that we were also gifted with a phenomenal set of mental faculties ... intuition, memory, the will, reason and imagination. It's these faculties that allow us to live from the inside out."
Financial peace comes from knowing that our inner wealth is ultimately what sustains us. This is a paradigm shift in the idea of abundance, from the external to the internal. It reminds me of a new definition of prosperity I found recently in 2012: Crossing the Bridge to the Future, by Mark Borax:
"You are rich the moment you recognize that you have so much more to give to this world than you will ever need to take from it."
