Four Reasons Why You Be Candid About Your Prices On Your Website

Since the Internet became a popular promotional tool for businesses, it has been common practice for businesses to avoid mentioning prices if they are not directly selling from their website.

The reason for this is that originally websites were primarily used as a lead generation tool. More specifically, many businesses wanted people to call them instead of signing up to their e-mail list. Whatever the merits of that approach 10 or 15 years ago, it is not the best approach to take today.

Here are four reasons why you should state your prices directly on your website, regardless of what you're offering.

1. It Pre-Qualifies Your Customers

The most obvious reason why you should include prices directly on your website is that it helps you to pre-qualify prospects before they contact you. By simply stating your prices on your website you can immediately weed out prospects who are not in your price range.

Plus, by filtering out unqualified customers you can save a lot of time and resources that could be better spent elsewhere.

2. It Gives You an Edge

Another huge benefit that will gain is that you immediately gain credibility over competing websites which do not state their prices up front.

Since most people use the Internet to gain information, you should take advantage of it by providing your visitors with the information they are looking for instead of frustrating them by avoiding the subject.

If a potential customer is looking at your site and your competitor's website, but only your site has the prices available then it reflects well on you and it may even look as if your competition has something to hide. Remember, people who use the Internet to research and purchase products are looking for websites that are open, honest, and transparent.

3. It Can Boost Your Search Engine Ranking

One benefit that is largely overlooked by most business websites the tremendous advantage that discussing your price on your website can provide. Topics relating to pricing are among the most common search phrases that are used by potential customers. If your website never talks about price, then you'll never rank for those types of searches.

As an added bonus, by doing even a small amount of keyword researching based around pricing and costs, you will probably discover a lot of keywords that have very little competition. While one keyword may not bring in a lot of traffic, when you can rank for a majority of these keywords with very little effort, you end up with a substantial increase in page views, visitors, leads... and sales.

4. You're Going to Have To Tell Them Eventually

If for no other reason, you should include your pricing your website because you're going to have to tell your customers eventually. Ironically, this is also one of the biggest reasons why most companies won't post prices on the website. Many businesses, especially service-based businesses, don't want to include price because they actually have a range of prices that a particular service can cost, but even if you don't include a hard price, you can indicate a price range. In this way, you still have the ability to meet the customer's expectations while still giving yourself the leeway you need when determining what the final price will be.

As you can see, there are strong reasons why you should seriously consider being open and up-front on your website about the prices you charge for you products and services.
