What Are You Doing To Make Your Affiliate Marketing Business Unique?

What Are You Doing To Make Your Affiliate Marketing Business Unique?

Affiliate marketing is becoming an increasingly popular way for ordinary people to try and make some money by working from home on the Internet. In this article I want to look at how you can make your affiliate marketing business unique, especially if you are hoping to make your mark in the "make money on the Internet" niche.

First, let's look at why you should focus on developing a unique profile for your affiliate marketing business.

One of the most popular market niches for Internet businesses is the business of marketing on the Internet itself. Not only are their numerous subscription-based online network marketing programs that promise Internet marketing success, but there are also hundreds and thousands of products and services that appeal to this sector. The great majority of those businesses offer Internet marketers affiliate programs which are free to join.

What that means is that anybody with access to the Internet could be "in business" in less than an hour. All they have to do is join a couple of programs and start promoting them on the Internet via a Blogger blog or a Squidoo page, either of which takes less than ten minutes to set up.

Other quick-start methods of promoting affiliate programs would include posting a few classified ads, setting up a PPC campaign, or buying some advertising space in an e-mail newsletter. Potential customers can be directed straight to the product sales pages via affiliate links, or to a "product review" posted on a blog or web page, and then invited to click through to the sales page via an affiliate link.

Clearly, setting up an affiliate marketing business on the Internet is not difficult.

On the other hand, enjoying consistent success and building a viable affiliate marketing business is going to take a bit more effort. It is interesting to note that a market that is very easy to enter, such as Internet marketing, is often more difficult to actually make a profit in. The reason for this is simple. Where a market is easy to enter, many will enter. But what they will discover is that competition is fierce and only the savviest of marketers is actually going to succeed. In fact it is thought that fewer than five in 100 people succeed with network marketing or affiliate marketing on the Internet.

So what can you do if you want to your affiliate marketing business to succeed?

Here are some key tips you need to know - and implement - to stand any chance of succeeding with an online affiliate business.

1. Choose your niche carefully. Find a niche market that is small enough for you to dominate, but big enough for you to make a nice profit in.

2. Offer your niche market a unique product or service that is relevant to their needs. This is a product you develop yourself, NOT an affiliate product (unless you wish to create your own affiliate program, which is a great idea, by the way).

3. Find good quality affiliate products that will be of interest to your niche market and will complement your unique product or service.

4. Concentrate most of your time on marketing your unique product, and sell your affiliate products on the back of your own product. Of course, you can also write reviews for your affiliate products and promote them on their own terms, but the main thrust of your strategy should be to promote your own product or service first. When people see that you offer a good service or product they will come back for more, and that is where you can offer them your affiliate products.

5. Brand your business with your own personality. Don't try to hide behind a wall of Internet anonymity. It doesn't work. You want to be known, recognised, respected, and a trusted source of information relating to your niche market. So show your face by posting a photograph of yourself on your website and use it as your icon whenever you join an online forum or social networking site. Produce your own videos in which you freely give advice and information relating to your market. Make yourself available by telling people how to contact you. Be willing to help other people, show people what to avoid and you will win a lot of goodwill among your potential customers.

If you stay focused on developing unique products that your niche market want and on building your personal brand, you will be in a much better position to succeed with your affiliate marketing business.
