I think the next decade is the 1st January 2011, not now
What do you think?
"Your life begins on day one,Year one ends twelve months later, when you are one. Your tenth year ends ten years after the day of your birth -on the last (and not the first) day and then you are ten.
Thus the 20th Century ended on 31/12/2000 -despite the millennium hype at the change of 19 to 20 in the year number.
Also the "noughties" will end on 31st December,2010 and the next decade will start on 1st January on 2011."
If you start at the beginning of the calendar, there is no year "0".
This century started 2001.That makes 2010 the tenth year of the century, and that makes 2011 the first year of the next decade.
But,pop culture will always consider 2010 the first year of the "teens" decade,2020 will be the "20's" and on and on.Who looks back in time and says,"1990 was the last year of the 80's?"This way of looking at things will continue.
If you really want to get technical, then you're not entirely correct.A decade is ten years long,no matter when you consider the start or end.Strictly speaking from a proper calendar perspective,2010 is still part of the first decade of the 3rd millennium. However, both astronomers and the general public consider decades to start with zeros and end with nines.
Still,by definition,1995 to 2004 is a decade, but that doesn't make it the "90's."everyone will refer to the 90's as being from 1990 to 1999 because it's simply easier to do so.
If you still want to get more technical, answering the question that was asked would be the right answer which has nothing to do with 1195-2004.Other than that, you agreed with me,the public (pop culture) considers a decade to start with 0 and end with a nine.
The last day of the liturgical year is the Saturday before the First Sunday of Advent. In 2009 this was Saturday, November 28. Do you know when it is in 2010?
What Fiscal Year-End Mean?
The completion of a one-year, or 12-month, accounting period. A firm's fiscal year-end does not necessarily need to fall on December 31, and can actually fall on any day throughout the year.
Investopedia explains Fiscal Year-End
The reason that a company's fiscal year often differs from the calendar year and may not close on December 31 is due to the nature of a company's needs. For example, retailers tend to close their books at the end of January due to the large amount of December sales. If the fiscal year-end is too close to a heavy selling season, the company will be hard-pressed to produce its annual financial statements, count inventories, etc. because its manpower will be going toward selling its product.
Just when is the Chinese New Year? There's actually a lot more to it than lion dances and firecrackers, although these two pieces of tradition are integral and more visible, Chinese New Year to China is like Christmas to the West. In essence, Chinese New Year is spending time with family, gift giving and all,the best, food-fest.
While Americans,if we're lucky may get Christmas Eve day and Christmas Day off, and Europeans may take a whole week holiday, Chinese New Year festivities officially last for fifteen days. Businesses and factories usually only take about one week off.
