Disturbing Thought Patterns are Toxic
Disturbing Thought Patterns are Toxic
His bottom line during his address was that too much time is spent thinking in Disturbing Thought Patterns. We let Disturbing Thought Patterns influence our lives so intensely that we never reach the goals or the potential we were meant to.
As I sat there, I realized that his message not only applied to my personal life but it also applied to my business life. I sat back and applied his theory to my home business and I realized that there were many instances almost DAILY that I could have moved forward in my life but instead I allowed DTP’s to take hold.
Check out how easy it is. Anyone in business for themselves or working for someone else can relate to these questions. For instance, have YOU ever sat back and:
• Rehashed over and over: WHY that person didn’t get it and what could I have said so he WOULD get the point?
• Let a setback affect the rest of your productivity that day? ‘I'm just so disappointed I cannot work!’
• Replayed an argument in your head over and over? Getting angry all over again? Over and over? Getting worked up over something you really should just leave alone and move on?
• Really WORRIED about failing in your business or career? The ‘I’m not sure if I cans’ are really destructive to you.
• Had the thought (more than once) while dialing a prospective client: ‘She probably will turn me down’ or ‘She is not going to answer’ or ‘He's not interested’ and then actually believed it doesn’t show up in your voice on the phone or the machine? Next, you wondered why they didn't get back to you, right?
• Thought to yourself that you aren't getting anywhere (and instead of asking yourself WHY and doing something about it just sat there letting that thought permeate your being?)
I have been guilty of ALL of those things in my personal life and my home business.
Disturbing Thought Patterns are Toxic. They permeate your body, your mind, and make you feel bad mentally. Your thought focus is then basically ‘in the dumps.’
Max Lucado asked the congregation to think about this: What could we have done in our lives up to this point if we had never had a disturbing thought pattern? What if we hadn't gotten sidetracked and put things aside? What if we had focused on the matters at hand? What if we had done what we set out to do without letting negative thoughts get in the way? WHERE WOULD WE BE NOW??? Imagine the accomplishments, the feeling of getting it right that we would feel and where we would be!
So, my answer to this question and my challenge to everyone is What Do We Look for in a Leader? What do we look for in someone who is successful? The answers to those questions are who YOU want to be if you will be successful. Check it out:
We look for people who don’t let setbacks keep them from achieving their goals. We look for people who do not let plain old ‘life’ mess them up.
A leader is the person we all want to be. We want to be someone who does NOT sit around whining about the things we don't like when we could be doing something more productive with our time. When we are productive, we feel mentally ‘fresh’ with more positive thought patterns.
We all want to work with someone who DOES move forward NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. No matter how many times we hear an answering machine, get no response, or hear the word ‘no.’ This is ‘Determination’ in a word.
Successful people put on the horse blinders so they do not see or process the negative thoughts or situations in life that may be around them.
Kick out the disturbing thoughts and don't waste valuable time on them. Don't let them cripple your creativity or your attitude. It’s your choice. You kick them out. No one else can.

Bestselling author, Max Lucado, gave a talk on what he called Disturbing Thought Patterns. I was privileged to be in attendance that week. Max even nicknamed them DTP’s.
