Many online affiliate marketers are on the way to succeeding once they have make their first sale, if they can then repeat the process. Unfortunately though there seems to be an obstacle that holds them back from achieving a successful end and that is the fact that they continually have a list of excuses for not getting the necessary tasks done. The biggest obstacle holding them back though is that they are always looking for "the best" affiliate program

There are a number of ways that you can overcome this mental block, and once you are aware of it you can take steps to avoid it. To begin with we need to discuss the problem, which is really quite straight forward. Affiliate marketers never get started promoting a program because they are still searching for "the one". There is in reality no such thing as "the best" product which means that by continuously searching for the bet online income opportunity you miss out on the programs that are right in front of your eyes. Some of them will spend months searching for the next best thing without realizing that they are even doing it.

Due diligence is essential but it should not be all consuming and overwhelming. Keep in mind that whatever type of affiliate program you are looking at now is possibly quite good enough. So long as your pre-requisites are met then you should "just do it".

If you haven't as yet made a list of your pre-requisites, here are a few of the most common ones.

The first point to consider is the price of the product. Don't make the mistake that many online marketers make of only setting one single price point, especially if you are promoting to a list. You will often find that the average person will generally start off by making smaller purchases and then gradually increase the amounts they spend with you as your credibility and their trust in you grows.

What sort of commission does the affiliate company pay out? Although this might seem like an obvious pre-requisite, it is one that many online affiliate marketers fail to look at, but it is important. Also you need consider the type of commission you want to earn, whether you are more interested in receiving once off payments or recurring residual income.

If you want to concentrate on earning an income from recurring commissions, you may find that you will earn less per sale, but over the long term you will actually end up making more money than you would from just a single sale.

It is possible that there are other pre-requisites you will want to set such as the type of product you want to promote. As an example you may want to concentrate on digital information products or you could be more comfortable promoting physical products and all of these things will affect the commission rate.

What you must remember is that so long as the product you promote meets your minimum requirements, all you need to do is stop worrying about the next best thing and focus on doing the job. Don't become one of those online affiliate marketers who ends up being a statistic. If the product has a good conversion rate, offers a good commission and meets the rest of you basic criteria, you need to get going and start making money. At some later point you may find a product that you feel is better, and it is easy enough to swap it with the one that you promoted initially.

There are pros and cons to Affiliate Marketing, just as there are to any business. As has been suggested, he best policy is to proceed with caution and do some research before jumping in. As Carol has recommended, this topic thread in the EvanCarmichael.com forum is the ideal place to ask questions and seek further input on available Affiliate Marketing programs. If a person is serious about building an online business and is interested in Affiliate Marketing plans, they should approach the process as they would any other form of business. Research, ask questions, compare opportunities, participate in forums on online business and Affiliate Marketing. GT :-]

Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion - You made some very good points here Jeff and I agree with you, Affiliate Marketing should not be something that you concentrate all your efforts into. As i said earlier I have learned a lot with Affiliate Marketing and continue to do so, and it has helped me tremendously to understand what I am going to have to do in my chosen niche(s).
