Discover the Link Between Your Business Public Relations and Social Media
With more that six hundred million people on Facebook and over one hundred and ten Tweets daily, social media has become very important in many people's lives. There are in more people visiting social media sites than those actually searching for information, which was originally the main purpose that anyone went on the internet for.
Because of this passion for the social web, it is important that you think about how you can apply social media for your business, in order to get a slice of the pie. Public relations are a very important part of any marketing strategy and this includes dealing with positive information as well as handling any negative feedback that may be received.
Here are three different examples that show how social media has forever altered the way that online businesses look at public relations.
1. One of the main changes in the public relations area of any business is that they can no longer talk at the audience, but instead they must engage directly with them. The majority of ordinary people are now more actively engaged in the process and the benefits of engaging in a two way conversation with the market you are trying to reach is that it softens the brands image. This can also dissolve the barrier that generally exists between an individual customer and the online business.
2. One other major change that has come about through social media is that people generally are more open to exchanging information and this happens almost at lightening speed. People who are involved in public relations are using this knowledge that is being shared to do more accurate and precise market research which helps them to build a more positive brand awareness for their income opportunities products.
Something else that has altered the dynamics with social media for you legitimate online businesses is that now the PR professionals interact directly with the press. Journalists now not only search the internet for information but they also are actively sharing it. Because journalists are now so much more accessible it is easier for PR professionals to get their information out to the general public much quicker.
3. Because of the easy access to the social media sites for your online business consumers have now come to expect more personal attention and they are not that interested in mass or non-targeted information like they previously were. In fact they now expect to be addressed on a personal level, and this is because of the possibility of two-way communications that can now take place.
This can also have a downside because all it takes is one angry customer to make just one post on Facebook and it can start a huge backlash. Previously this would take much longer and many customers to complain before the story spread, but today it can happen in just a few minute, on one social media site and in not time at all it can backlash to many other social sites. Ultimately this means that PR professionals need to be on their toes around the clock in case anything need immediate attention.
Generally over the past decade public relations have undergone massive changes. Where before all that was required was to create press releases or hold a conference, today PR professionals are expected to leverage social media for online businesses so that they can improve brand awareness, as well as constantly creating a two-way conversation with the target market to ensure that important information is being shared quickly and to this end they must create targeted social media
campaigns. What this has done is make it a job that never sleeps as there are millions of people on the social media sites at any given time, and to be successful with social media for your business it has now become a full time task.
