If you build a website that does not meet the needs of your future potential customers you will have done all the work for nothing.

Here are some of the questions that you must get the answers to before creating your online business website.

1. To begin with you must know the type of metrics you intend using. It is not possible to measure how successful your website is if you are unable to measure it. One of the most common methods used to measure the success of a website is by concentrating on the conversions. This would depend on the number of leads or sales that are generated. If the websites’ main aim is to build a list then things like opt-ins or bounce rates would matter as well.

2. The second thing that you must take into account is how your website is going to help your potential customers. Keep in mind that any visitors to your online business website are real people and they have real needs. Generally when anyone visits your site their main reason for doing so is to find an answer to a problem that they may have.

If you design your website in such a way that it addresses the possible problems up front you will succeed in helping them as quickly and easily as possible. A good idea might be to create a blog or a section on your website that is dedicated to giving tips to your visitors that will address any problems they might have and this will also give your website the added advantage of standing out as a valuable information source.

3. Another decision for you to make is how you are going to make your business website unique? Ask yourself, if your website is going to look the same as all the others, why anyone would want to visit your site specifically.

Spend some time looking at the type of websites your competition has and from this you should be able to see what they are doing correctly and what does not really work, then model what they are doing right and make changes where you feel they are going wrong. If you do this your online business website will have more to offer visitors than your competition does.

4. Last point! Ask yourself why anyone would rather buy from your website than from your competition and there are a number of different approaches that you can follow to address this issue.

A popular method is to make your website social and friendly. You can build your website with social buttons and encourage your readers to share your website with other people without actually leaving your site.

This is a great way to build a personal relationship with your readers who with time could be your future customers. All of this is done by firstly providing useful and valuable content. If you follow this approach it might be a good idea to have an educational area on your website as well and then by getting your visitors to subscribe to your email list you can continue to send them valuable information and establish a solid foundation for building a successful online business.

While many of the details of building an online business website are important, to have a really effective website you need to keep in mind what the overall concept is and how user friendly your website will be.

The Big Book of Small Business: You Don't Have to Run Your Business by the Seat of Your Pants, by Tom Gegax. Ditto. 3. PADI: The Business of Diving Book Okay, so this book won't be of use to anyone who doesn't want to start a scuba store, but I did, and this book was of course invaluable to me in reaching that goal.
