How Internet Marketers Working from Home can Avoid Burnout!

One of the biggest problems that many internet marketers who work from home face is the possibility of burnout. There are various ways that this can manifest for example a complete lack of motivation, writers block or just general apathy towards any tasks related to their internet based businesses.

There is good news for this malaise though and in this article we will discuss three ways that it can be avoided.

1. Get some fresh air everyday!

Whether you go out for a coffee at midday rather than drinking it at home alone, or you take a lunch hour and go out everyday it does not really matter. The critical point is that you get a change in your environment for a short space of time every single day.

It is really important that you find somewhere that you can relax for a little while away from your normal living and working area, especially if you live and work in the same place. People who work from home on the internet usually do their job alone, so having a quick conversation with someone who does not live in your house is a great way to stimulate your brain a bit. You do not have to do the same thing every day. Mix is up a bit and sometimes maybe just take a walk around your neighborhood.

If you never have a conversation with anyone and never leave your house you are going to burn out rapidly and your internet business will suffer the consequences.

2. Begin the day with a smile!

It makes no real difference what you do to get into a good mood, just so long as you do whatever it is at the start of each day. One of the most difficult things to do is to wake up dreading the day ahead of you. As a work from home entrepreneur, particularly one who does business on the internet you have the advantage of being able to set your own working hours.

So if you need a couple of hours and a lot of coffee to start your day off right, then take that time and relax. Enjoy what you do. One of the biggest causes of people burning out is that they really don’t enjoy what they are doing when working from home.

3. Do something relaxing that will help you wind down before bedtime.

One of the most difficult things to do when you work and sleep in the same place is to have the ability to relax and shut off your brain. If you cannot do this you will not be able to sleep very well and one of the worst things is to fall asleep worrying about the next day or anything you may not have accomplished in the current one. Before bedtime take some time to relax and a good way to do this is by reading a book or watching a bit of TV. This removes your mind from what you have been doing all day and will help you to detach yourself from your workday.

As your own boss working from home on your own internet marketing business can be a lot of fun and also very rewarding but at the same time it is very easy to burnout if you never give yourself the opportunity to relax and get away from the daily stresses of your work. It may not be sufficient to just sit on the couch so find out what you can do to refresh yourself on a regular basis and do that, not only for your own health but also the health of your internet marketing business.

Re: What is Your Favorite Thing About Owning A Business? Re: What is Your Favorite Thing About Owning A Business? - [quote="freddyb45":1t3lpfi8]For me it's the fact that all the time and effort you put in is worth a lot more, due to it making you "business" more profitable. Working for yourself is also a positive, although employing people you can trust is quite different.[/quote:1t3lpfi8] I like this idea. Working for yourself means you are investing in your own future, not someone else's, although there is value in working for someone else first to gain experience and confidence. Working for yourself does not automatically mean success, fame and fortune. For most entrepreneurs, it takes much work and dedication to get to the point of financial success and comfort - sometimes years. But the benefit is, again, you know you are investing in yourself and building equity for your own future. GT :-]
Re: 3 Signs That I Need To Get Serious About IM... Re: 3 Signs That I Need To Get Serious About IM... - Hi David and GT, I can totally sympathise with your dilemma. For those Internet Marketers who work from home full time, you have my admiration, for those of us still trying to get there we are stuck between two stools. I have my regular job in training which keeps the wolf from the door but because I have to do a fair amount of travelling I sometimes arrive home late. I spend most of my days talking and organising classes and administration so I find that I am mentally not physically tired and it is sometimes difficult to focus. My plan is to redress the balance so that eventually I can reduce my regular work to part time in order to put in the extra time that IM demands. Until that time comes I will always be chasing the clock and always feel guilty if I haven’t spent enough time on the Internet when I get home. regards, Mal.

It's replaced the tactic of using pictures of Ferraris on one's site to impress.
Re: What I'm reading this weekend - Sept 10, 2010 Re: What I'm reading this weekend - Sept 10, 2010 - Hi Evan, I have been reading a few of those blog posts and find them very thought provoking. I especially liked the ‘What I believe about…. Work’ post by Perry Marshall and can relate to that very much. In the ‘old days’ whenever they were when we had no gadgets and worked five or six days a week and took Sunday off whether we waned to or not, it was easier to switch off at least for one day of the week. As Internet Marketers we are never more than a few metres away from the tools of our trade and they are all telling us to come back and ‘switch me on’, we have work to do. As I type this it is Sunday morning and I should take Perry’s advice on board and take at least one day off completely to recharge the batteries. regards, Mal.
