Below are three basic steps that will help you get started and in no time at all you will be blogging, and the great thing with a blog is that you can do it for free.

1. Make a Decision on the Content.

When setting your blog up you will need to make a decision on what your main purpose is; if you intend using it as a personal journal, do you want to offer information on a particular subject or will you be using it as a method of advertising your online businesses?

Whatever your reason is does not matter, but what is important is the content that you intend to add. Start off with 3 – 4 topics in the beginning as this will get your blog going and you will start to see people visiting your site.

What is great about a blog is that it is interactive, so people who enjoy what you have written will be able to leave a comment on the topic and when they do this be sure to pay attention to what they have to say.

Make use of any questions in these comments as they are a great way to get topics to write about. Be sure that before you post any information on your blog that you have researched the subject thoroughly especially if you want to appear as an expert in that niche. The more you know the better your likelihood of people accepting you as an expert and there are many people out there who have good knowledge so don’t think that you are only answering to people who are not clued up on the subject.

2. Be Available for your Readers

Set aside some time making yourself available to your visitors. Keep your profile up to date and include email instructions so that any questions your followers may have they can email you. By making yourself available to your readers not only will they feel happier because now they know that you are a real person, but this is your opportunity to start building a community of like minded people who will most probably end up as your customers.

3. Personalize Your Blog

After your blog is created you need to monetize it by adding some links to affiliate programs that are related to your business niche. There are various popular sites where you can find suitable products for example Clickbank.

Apart from Clickbank the others are quite easy to find by simply searching through any one of the search engines. All you need to do is type in advertising affiliates you will be amazed at how many you will find. It is important to all businesses for their products to be promoted and they are willing to pay for this advertising service.

It is not important what purpose you have in mind when setting your blog up, by following these three simple steps your blog will be up and running in no time at all and what is even better is that by adding online income opportunities to your online business site you can make money extra income as well.

Re: What works for you? - Hi Yinka, I work better under pressure of deadlines when I am doing something for other people. However, I like to have the leisure to develop my own projects. The first case is what Stephen Covey calls a "Quadrant 1" activity ("Important and urgent") whereas the second case is a "Quadrant 2" activity ("Important, not urgent"). We should aim to make as much time as possible for Q2 activities so that we can develop our own projects. Easier said than done!
Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy - Hi David, I agree about the Blogosphere. You have a smaller group that Blog, but do so on the premise that they think they should, but have never really considered the purpose of their Blog. Then I think there are a few SEO or Internet Marketing types that see Blogging as just another link building strategy. But the largest group of Bloggers, tend to be people who enjoy writing and discussing their topics of interest. Blogging is good for link building, but the true Blogger is a breed apart from the rest. They want to dialog, to debate, to have feedback and they are very willing to link to other worthwhile conversations that are relevant to their topic. I agree with you. These group of Bloggers obviously are passionate about their writing and together, they create huge conversation trails interactive and travel from Blog to Blog. But the evidence is clear with this group that loves what they write about. With comments enabled on a Blog and having a Blog tuned to a specific purpose you already have the evidence of original Social Media.
