What are Your Priorities When it Comes to Marketing Your Internet Based Home Business?

For anyone who is new to marketing an internet based home business, there is so much to learn and one of the most important lessons that you need to learn is what you should focus on that will help you to build a prosperous and successful business.

Here are three mistakes you must avoid making when first starting out and they are mistakes that tend to absorb people’s attention and that do not help to earn them an income. Are you making the same mistakes?

1. Are you spending an enormous amount of time on social networking sites such as Twitter or Facebook? You can build a huge list of followers very quickly on these sites, but are they making any money for you?

2. There are many people who waste countless hours trying to build their lists with giveaways by surfing on traffic exchanges, but if this is not done correctly it is a total waste of time.

3. Thousands of people spend hours of their time chatting on forums which is enlightening but not achieving much benefit to their internet home business opportunities.

Although none of these things mentioned to this point are bad in themselves, as they all have a place when it comes to marketing your business online, they are not the sort of things that you should be making your main concerns.

Let’s now discuss the types of tasks you should be focusing on to build your internet based business successfully.

1. Learn how to develop your own products or services. It doesn’t matter whether these are physical or digital products or if you are offering a particular skill as a service, what your main objective here is that you will become known on the internet when you offer something of your own.

2. Once you have developed your product or service then you can if you want to, set up an affiliate program and offer it via either PayDotCom.com or Clickbank.

It would be worth your while when setting up the program to include a sales page, some banner ads and a series of email letters. This type of thing will encourage people to join your affiliate program and market it on your behalf.

3. Keep learning new skills by reading books and articles by other marketers who are successful. There are many books available both off and online from which you can benefit. The more knowledge you gain the better off you will be.

5. Consider outsourcing some of your tasks. There are many tasks that it is necessary to perform on a regular basis and unless you have unlimited hours to spend on your business, you would be putting yourself ahead of the crowd by outsourcing some of the tasks that you are either not very good at or that are necessary but time consuming.

As an example, if writing articles or sales letters is something that you dread doing and it takes you forever to get going with these, or if you find the technical aspects difficult, then consider outsourcing some of these so that you can concentrate on the parts that you excel at and enjoy doing such as promoting your internet based business.

Yes it is true that outsourcing does cost some money, but the fact that it will save you a great deal of time and increase your productivity in a big way is a major factor to take into consideration as it will bring you closer to the kind of success you want to achieve for your online business opportunities sooner.

So in summary if you want your business to succeed on the internet then start focusing on the things that matter. Learn to manage your time and prioritize the important tasks first. Spend a little time each day on the less important tasks such as social marketing and forum commenting and you will see progress on a regular basis.

Re: Who inspired you to start? Re: Who inspired you to start? - Hi Evan, I was inspired by Mr. Bill Gates ever since I was a student learning Computers. But I was motivated for Internet as my Business, when I read his book "The Road Ahead" in 1995. It was in this book that Gates laid out his vision of an interconnected world built around the Internet. Based on the premise that life will be transformed by the convergence of inexpensive computing and inexpensive communications, Gates drew from his experience at the center of the personal computer revolution to give insights on the growth, evolution and impact of technology. I had always looked up to Bill Gates as my idol. When I read this book, it made me more focussed on Microsoft and Internet, The Internet was one of the upcoming things in this time. So I took over to the Internet as my primary business. Regards,

Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
