Startups...Use Interactive Marketing

This article is based on excerpts from an interview with David Sauter,@dsauter, President and CEO, Envano Interactive Marketing. Starting an online business today requires a focus on being an innovator of interactive business strategy. Over the past six or seven years, interactive has become main stream. Just about everyone has been exposed to the internet and most use it in some form on a day-to-day basis. Social media is opening up the platform of business strategy to a lot more people and, for the most part, they understand the possibilities. Businesses are using the new things in conjunction with older, more traditional avenues to get conversions. Application of the interactive internet has evolved from just being used as a channel for information, static websites and being connected. People are now asking interactively, what do I want to do today, where do I want to do it, who can I “talk to virtually” as a part of this experience? Whether the business is brick-and-mortar or online, applying innovation to the interaction between business and potential consumer must be strategic. Being innovative, in and of itself, doesn’t necessarily bring the desired results or conversions to your business. Adding the well thought out, strategic components is an essential part of a successful, innovative, interaction between your business and the end consumer. Today’s online entrepreneur probably doesn’t have the same resources as a brick-and-mortar business. Traditionally brick-and-mortar businesses have staff or outside marketing companies to assist them in developing and implementing a strategic plan. What online entrepreneurs do have is the power of the internet to use as leverage and as an incredible source of information and tools, literally at their fingertips. According to Sauter, “FaceBook is a huge player in innovative interaction. It combines the business and personal together. There is a blurring of the boundaries between business and personal. People are more willing to engage with what they are familiar with through FaceBook interaction. Oftentimes, the decision maker is viewing the information in a more mentally relaxed situation, and has more time to peruse what is there.” Of course, FaceBook is just one of the tools available for innovative interaction. What is most important for any business strategic plan is to craft a specific and succinct message about their brand and utilize the best interaction tools to get that message across. One of the biggest surprises was “pessimism on the part of marketers and executives toward the value of interactive per se. Although many have embraced it, there is still a mystery about it. We spend a lot of time educating, in some cases on its rudiments, sometimes to push the envelope.” For startups he advises, “don’t be afraid to fail, if you are afraid to try something you won’t succeed. Failure can, and often does, lead to success. It isn’t the end, move on!” Whether you are a startup or have been around for awhile, “reading books by Robert Kiyosaki, Guy Kawasaki, or Seth Godin can provide some very helpful information.” To your success!
