MLM Scam Review Sites -- Just More Advertising ?

Written by: Bill Palte

Article Overview: We have all seen the ads stating that they have the facts that show which companies are scams and which are not. When you read through the site, you will see many facts and "testimonials" giving details about how unfair the business treats people. There are typically two or three graphically detailed accounts of deception. After you read most of the way through the articles, you come to a point where the author states that he can save you a great deal of money and heartache. Then he lists several companies that he personally recommends, as the best place to invest your money. Seems very logical. Seems as though he is really looking out for your best interest.

MLM Scam Review Sites -- Just More Advertising ?

We have all seen the ads stating that they have the facts that show which companies are scams and which are not. When you read through the site, you will see many facts and “testimonials” giving details about how unfair the business treats people.

Then you take the companies that were recommended and do the same due diligence.

Uh-oh.

Seems like you found a different site that now states that THESE two companies are in fact scams. Seems like each author is promoting different businesses as not being scams. What goes?

Well, I believe you were just reeled into the newest form of advertising, the Scam Review.

In this process, a scam review is presented, hopefully factual, to give you the low-down of how the business “supposedly” operates. Whether it is factual or not is in the eyes of the beholder. Personally, many MLM’s are some version of a scam, but not because of the product, but because of how the business is marketed and operated. When the focus is on recruiting instead of the product, the business is probably doomed to fail.

So, how does anyone determine what is legitimate and what is a scam?

First, remember, anyone can post anything on the internet. Second, complete the due diligence of the business. Research how the company operates, what their products do (or don’t do). Look for the principle business partners and what their individual histories are, what legal issues they have had, how long they have been running the business, and is there on-going legal action. Then go to the online social sites and ask questions. Ideally, you are looking for people that have been with the company for a long time and, also, for people that were in the business and then left. Weigh the opinions of both sides. Realize that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

After all of the research, you then have to decide if the company is such that you would be glad to be part of the organization. If so, congratulations, you found your business. If not, keep looking. Your ideal business exists, you just need to do more research.

So what about the “scam review” sites?

When you look, just remember, you may be looking at advertizing instead of a factual business review.

Re: Profiles on Infamous Entrepreneurs? Re: Profiles on Infamous Entrepreneurs? - Hi Kevin, I guess the point about running a "Scam" thread would be to attract those different opinions so they can be aired on an open forum and responded to fairly. Both sides of the argument could then be seen in one place (here!).
