Setting goals and being disciplined is the essential aspect of self-management. Before you do anything at all, you must write out your list describing what you would like to complete today. When you have everything down you would like to have done you then need to rate them in order of importance. Remember the top positions should include income generating activities, but it is also important to include time for personal development and time to focus on medium and long term goals.

Once you have rated everything begin with your number one priority and stay with this until you have totally completed it. Do not be tempted to have a break to check emails, see what's happening on social media sites or even to start some other project further down your list. Completion is the key. Work your way down in this way, you will be pleasantly surprised how quickly you can put behind you projects that have been hovering around for days or weeks.

Another really good idea is to allocate a time limit for certain tasks and to stick to it. For instance you should be able to do everything you need to on Twitter in half an hour. It can be so tempting to check out dozens of peoples profiles as you are deciding who to follow so make sure you are disciplined on this. Likewise for sites like Facebook or MySpace. Stay with your allocated time limit because you will find the hours ticking away with nothing really productive being added to your day.

Get in there, tidy up, post something, add some new contacts, get out again.

Also with emails. If you are getting a huge number of emails from sources that you are not really getting time to deal with, unless they are essential to your business,

un-subscribe. There is absolutely no benefit in having folders full of unread messages. Select the most important contacts and delete the rest. Learn how to be efficient and organized when dealing with your inbox. You need to avoid the temptation to become sidetracked.
