• make sure the article has value, gives worthwhile information and is not solely a vehicle for a sales pitch.
  
  
• do keyword research to get your article found by those who are interested in what you have to offer. Use long-tailed keywords where possible.
  
  
• build relationships with your readers. Direct your writing at one person - the reader. Make them feel you are talking to them specifically.
  
  
• make the article relevant. It must tie in directly with what you are marketing. If you are starting with something that may seem unrelated you have to connect it in a very real way with your business so there is no disconnect.
  
  
• pay attention to spelling and grammar. This is important. Many will stop reading if they feel that the writing is not up to a reasonable standard.
  
  
• have a well thought out resource box. This is the "sell" section. It has to be sharp and focused. It should definitely have your name (amazing how often this is left out), the website url that directly relates to the article (not 5 different options to confuse the reader), a brief sales pitch with any special offers and it should have a call to action.
  
  
• and finally make sure you submit your article to the best article sites. Avoid the temptation of using schemes that blast your article to hundreds of sites for a few dollars. You can't beat manually submitting your article to the right sites. Obviously you are reading this on one of them now!
  
  

If you follow these recommendations you will find that not only will your articles be accepted by the publishing sites, you will also reap the benefits of readers clicking through to your website. Depending on the topic of your piece you will also find that the calibre of traffic is much higher than many other marketing strategies.
