The ongoing battle between your online business and the skeptics

It is interesting how, with the massive expansion of the internet and technology into all aspects of our daily lives, it is necessary for there to be a moderating influence to stop the gullible from being taken to the cleaners.

We have all received unwanted and uninvited letters from direct marketing book companies telling us we have won large sums of money if we can work out where to place the removable stickers...
We have all received amazing emails from a distant relative normally named something like Tony Blair from England (but with negligible English skills!) telling us we have inherited a diamond mine/ oilfield/ huge pile of cash...
We even had a recent scam where people paid for British bulldog puppies and had to pay extra to a fictitious freight company to secure delivery from Cameroun...

Of course this makes people uneasy when dealing with legitimate online businesses.
It doesn't help us when there is a constant stream of media commentators who remind us that "If it sounds too good to be true, it is!"
They are right in some ways. There is a huge amount of hype, overstatement, and plain dishonesty firing all around the internet. There are a million get rich overnight schemes and because of the very free and fluid nature of the internet it is up to the user to separate the good, the bad and the ugly.

The upshot of all of this is people are fearful. I spoke to a prospect recently who had been told by her family that because she had entered her name and email details into an opt-in form that crooks could now get into her bank account!

So how do you counter the fear and suspicion?
The best way is to find a business or system that can not be faulted for it's integrity. You need to find a business that can back up it's claims with affidavits from its participants and that has a reputation and profile that is only questioned by those who are pitching another product.
I spent six months researching many, many different online business opportunities before settling on the one I use.
If you are serious about making a career online a reasonable due diligence period is a minimum requirement.
The company that I found has a mission : to create 100 millionaires using it's marketing system by 2012!
You can imagine that those who are already skeptics look at a statement such as this and dismiss it outright as yet another rip-off.
Interestingly I think that this figure will be easily surpassed.
An "anything is possible" mindset has to be married to hard business truths in order to create any measure of success.

My advice is definitely to be cautious but also to be courageous once you have examined the potential business opportunity in depth. You are about to enter one of the most exciting and stimulating arenas in the world so you must make sure that it is the right one.
