Travel Consultant – A Necessity or A Waste Of Money?

Guest post by: Shafi Farooqui

Article Overview: But from my experience I have learnt that all these are nothing but mere words, mouthed by people who do not have any actual experience about how the industry works. Travel consultant plays a key role in every process of travel and can be of use even to the well-seasoned travelers. Even with the Internet it is difficult to compare and weigh all your options. For example if you are traveling to Singapore, you might only be able to locate a handful of hotels and then you would have no idea whether the quality they claim on their websites would be the same when you actually land up in the place. Now, a consultant will have local contacts and also in-depth knowledge of the place. He will be able to give you options that you would not otherwise have been able to find.

Travel Consultant – A Necessity or A Waste Of Money?

Only 30% of people traveling for leisure make use of a travel consultant. That means almost 70% do not. What could be their reasons for this? I have come across many: Why pay a consultant for something I can do myself?

All these consultants are nothing but glorified money-making scams.

With the Internet placing the world at your fingertips, who needs them?

They only make things messier.

But from my experience I have learnt that all these are nothing but mere words, mouthed by people who do not have any actual experience about how the industry works.

Contrary to being a waste of money, investing in a travel consultant ensures that you will actually be saving a lot of money. Surprised? Well, this is because the travel consultant would know of offers and discounts which might not be available to you. He might also have special tie-ups with hotels, airlines etc and therefore will be able to get you better comforts at reduced fare. Sometimes the websites run offers that become redundant, as they do not get updated on time. With an agent or consultant you do not face this problem either, as he will have up-to-date information.

A travel consultant usually has great rapport with the entire industry and hence gaining access to some special place or getting passes for that special concert are way easier for him than a layman. He can use his clout to get you almost anywhere and if you find yourself in a tight position, you can also rely on the consultant to get you out in many situations. During your travel if you miss a flight or put up in a resort that doesn't match your expectations, you can just call up your consultant to take care of such glitches.

Thus, in short, the travel consultant clears all your messy work. He does the research, takes care of the paperwork, schedules your stay according to your convenience and what's more gets you the best discounts too! He explains in details, the fine print of a ticket or the peculiar culture of the place you will be visiting. On the whole this professional takes care of the details and lets you relax and enjoy your travel.

Re: what position to request? - Hi Michael, Great suggestion from David, or you could try something around a design consultancy, How about Website Design Consultant, Design and Development Manager, Website Support and Development Manager or maybe Internet Business Development Consultant. Re: Which would you start: a Blog or Online Community? Re: Which would you start: a Blog or Online Community? - It is a difficult decision to make. Lets start it this way - What are you more interested in? Money? or Friends? or Both? If its purely Money, then Blog might be an appropriate answer. But consider this - It will be people (visitors) that will bring traffic to your blog and then Money will follow. This will be possible after a time and during this time it will be your friends who will be the starters. If you are looking for friends only, then its true that not many will be interested in knowing how you have beaten them in the game or the other way round. So it will be preferable to have a Forum where they can share ideas with you and others. But you can share your insider knowledge with them and invite comments from your Blog. You can also put up information on what others (including your friends) don't know about Tennis. The blog you create can provide News, Inside Information and also Techniques that can be used by the new entrants in the world of Tennis.

Re: Looking for business partners in travel and telecom areas Re: Looking for business partners in travel and telecom areas - Michael, In order to help I would need more detail. Travel and Telecom are pretty broad categories. I develop and design websites and I could help but not without a lot more information on what niche's your targeting. For example are you trying to just target people in and around Chicago or the whole United States.
