Travel Professional – Refine Your Expertise As A Travel Professional
As we all know the current economic trend is not a favorable scene for a travel professional. Travel industry, as the rest of global economy, has taken a hit. You can take advantage of the slowdown to hone your own skill. You can develop your business better. With a little planning, a little tact and a lot of hard work, staying adrift even in these tough times is very much possible. If you have the passion and the dedication, nothing can stop you. Here are a few pointers that might help you along the way:
Polish Your Craft:
If you do not have professional certification, now is the time to get one. Nothing gives more credibility to you than those few initials certifying your merits. It is true that at the end of the day, a travel professional only relies on his own skills and experience to deliver the best. But a strong foundation can be provided with the certification. A certification announces your reliability to the world, so go for it.
Become a Known Face:
Join a travel consortium. It is better to stick together in adverse times. You have better chance of making it by being known in the business circles. Apart from this, make full use of websites, blogs and various social networking sites to spread your name. If your name shows up on the Internet when a person is searching for a travel professional, your task of getting a client becomes much easier. Make sure you network well with your peers, try to attend seminars and make public speeches to establish your credentials as a person who knows all about travel. Hire professional PR help if possible. As your prospective clients read about you more and see you face in the media, they will turn to you for travel tips.
Spot Opportunities:
There are many untapped opportunities out there. Try to tie up with airlines, hotels, spas, resorts, etc, which would give your clients a better deal. Keep a database of your clients and remember the time around which they had traveled last time, try to spot a pattern. If you feel that say, they travel in the summer each year, call them up well in advance and give them better deals for making early travel plans. As a travel professional, never forget their preferences and always get a feedback. In this way you can guarantee their satisfaction and be assured of their loyalty to you.
Have a Plan:
Think in a long-term and have a broad approach. Consider that there are a lot of people out there who do not seek a travel professional for travel plans. Your long-term plans should include means to tap into this market. You should also have goals and know exactly how you want your profession to go. Do you want to become the king of a specific niche segment? Do you want to spread your wings globally? Know the answer to this and plan accordingly. Remember that if you can see a future for yourself, the present will not drag you down.
