No Need To Downsize The American Dream

Personally, I don’t need to watch TV to hear bad news. So, much for the American dream. I hear enough at the grocery store where everyone is talking about all of today’s gloom and doom. It’s everywhere.

You never hear them talk about the quiet transfer of wealth that’s taking place in the world today.

You can avoid the financial tsunami with a course of action that takes you to higher ground. Of course, you have to act on that plan. Wealth building is a choice. I don’t doubt that the financial well has run dry, I’m just saying it’s not the only well.

My Grandmother was “the richest woman in Babylon.” She was a stout Christian woman, who barely touched a glass of wine and could get up on a horse and herd cattle. She actually rode side-saddle back to the homestead for the delivery of her first born.

Now, Grandma didn’t have a lot of money but she had everything she wanted. She had dozens of children with their children with their children and more friends than you could ever count. When she died, the church was packed. I never heard anyone (even her sons-in-law) say a bad word about her.

I consider her to be a very wealthy woman.

Her wealth was deliberate. She worked hard to maintain relationships and regarded people as her major asset. The joy and love they generated is what made her spring to her feet every morning and when I went to visit her at the age of 83, she never once complained of her pain due to the cancer growing uncontrollably in her body. And, when I complained “how unfair it was that she had cancer”, she told me to stop and enjoy what we had at the moment. That it wasn’t about her. That soon she’d be gone and her suffering would bring those around her a little closer together. And, it did. We were all a better family for it.

Each of us has our own definition of wealth. Superficially, it includes money. But, deep down, we all know it’s a lot more than money, like relationships, experiences, knowledge, wisdom. It’s not only what you earn, it’s also what you learn and strangely enough it only has value if used and leads us to a fulfilled life.

So, while wealth is a heck of a lot more than money, money is generally the first thing we think of in building wealth.

So, how do you build wealth?

For me personally, it started with investing in me. Understanding that I didn’t have the answers and then making a commitment to the knowledge. The first thing I learned was how important it was to set goals and to create a foundation for me, and my family. I learned the fundamental principles of debt elimination, tax reduction, cash flow multiplication, asset protection, investment management and how to live on less than I made.

My wisdom came through a program called Wealth Masters International (WMI) in the form of education so I could make good decisions and be in control of my own wealth building process. I learned it didn’t matter how much money I made, what mattered was how much I leveraged and how much I kept.

Most importantly, I learned that building wealth is all about personal growth and the people you call your friends.

True wealth takes effort and time. You have to make some hard choices along the way. Just remember, that what goes up, must come down and if you know what you’re doing you can actually cash in on the downside of today’s economy. Plenty are.

The best part?

You can help others do the same and your inner life will grow. Soon, you too, will also be the richest person in Babylon. And, here’s a little insider tip: WMI just had the best quarter of their entire history during the worse economy since the Great Depression and you won’t hear that on the news.

Truth is the American dream is alive and kicking. You just have to know where to find it.

Be big! Pass it on.

Re: Are Economic Recessions Good for Franchising? Re: Are Economic Recessions Good for Franchising? -
As I understand it, when there are more corporate layoffs you have more workers looking into starting their own business. It makes sense in a backwards sort of way. My first impression is that Franchising would take a hit like everyone else... but the more I look into it: [i:6xh1ztbv]The opposite occurs[/i:6xh1ztbv]. There's a larger pool of very qualified workers that are disenchanted with the corporate world. They are often more than willing to take a bigger risk and seek self-employment, whether it's a franchise or not. In my opinion, there are lots of good opportunities out there, it's just a matter of doing your research and finding a nice fit.[/quote:6xh1ztbv] I agree with Russell. Initially everything looks like its taking a slight to moderate (and in some cases very "moderate") hit. But owning your own business is really (not to be cheesy) what the American Dream is all about - and this can most definitely be done in the cast of a successful franchise business. If you just think of a franchise as a very successful business plan, isn't that a pretty good place to start?

Re: New Funding Source Now LIVE! Re: New Funding Source Now LIVE! -
I have checked the site and it seems it for American Entrepreneurs only. Please correct me if I am wrong[/quote:3lio17iz] You are correct. I wanted to limit it to the U.S. in order to keep the legalities more simplified and under control. Also, there are plenty of other organizations doing their part to help the "world". I was interested in helping my own neighbors and fellow American entrepreneurs.

Re: What is one of your favorite sales and marketing book? Re: What is one of your favorite sales and marketing book? - Great post. I love biographies. My favorite book is The Magic of Thinking Big. It's such a quick, easy read. But the big take away message is you should dream big because most people don't bother to dream big and actually try big. The book cites the example of a job posting for an executive position gets far fewer responses than a job for a mid level manager or a mailroom clerk. So Dream Big & Do Big because most people won't. Off to get the Zappos book.
