Press Releases: The Secret Weapon To Internet Marketing Promotion

PR should definitely be a part of your internet marketing promotion mix. Unlike an article, which is typically your opinion or a story, a press release marks an occasion. It should be news worthy and you’ll get rejected if you make it “salesy.”

It’s also a great way to position yourself as a leader and own your brand.

You get instant credibility when people “google” your name and your press releases appear in the search results. These are the people who are doing their homework on your business opportunity and are further along in the buying process, therefore, a higher quality prospect.

First, create you press release in a text editing application like Word.

This allows you to easily paste the appropriate text into the various Press Release distribution forms. (More on this later.) Remember, once a release gets distributed, it then gets posted on a gazillion news sites throughout the web. The exposure for your internet marketing promotion is incredible but you can’t make any changes once you’ve released it so keep in mind the carpenter’s adage: Measure twice and cut once.

Step 1. Choose your topic

Press Releases are great for:

Step 2. Optimize for Keywords

Select specific keywords, including your name, and/or your company name. Also, consider “standing on the shoulders of giants.” This means if you can attach yourself to a visible brand (Carbon Copy Pro) especially in the heading – you’re internet marketing promotion will benefit from the exposure that brand is already generating.

Example Keywords: Starting Your Own Business, Steph and Dave Robey, Self Employed And Rich

Step 3. Write the Press Release

The release should be 3 to 4 paragraphs, no more than 400 words. More than 400 words will cost more for distribution. Get each keyword into the release, 3 or 4 times:

Think Through Your Contact Info

Include a real phone number and email address for people to get a hold of you. But, don’t give out your day-to-day contact information. You may want to create an email or have an 800# designated specifically for PR contact of your internet marketing promotion.

Hint: You’ll appear more like a “big” company if you don’t use your name as the point of contact, especially if the quote within the release is your own. You can make up a name or use an employee name.

Heading

Both your main keyword, your name, and your URL should be in the heading or at least the sub-heading. It should specifically state the occasion and it’s value. This is tricky because from a news perspective, it shouldn’t be “salesy” (benefit oriented). But, from a reader’s perspective, it should state WIFM (what’s in it for them).

Example: Internet Marketing Entrepreneurs, Steph and Dave Robey, Announce Their Free 7-Day BootCamp, Self Employed & Rich Available At www.SelfEmployedAndRich.com

“How To” Series Features 7 Daily Videos Created Specifically With “Need To Know” Information For Starting Your Own Business

1st Paragraph

The initial sentence should have your location (SAN PEDRO, Calif.) – who you are and what you’re announcing. Nine times out of ten this is simply a reiteration of your heading but, remember, often people will only read the first line of your release and the last line.

Example: SAN PEDRO, Calif, - Steph and Dave Robey, founders of Pivot Positive LLC, dedicated to helping people with information on starting your own businesses announced today they have released their Free, 7-Day BootCamp entitled “Self Employed & Rich.

The rest of the paragraph is just a little more information on what it is: features and benefits.

Example: The series features seven separate movies, each designed to target a different challenge and opportunity when starting your own business. Also included is a bonus introductory video of the couple’s own personal story entitled, “Lessons From The Home Based Business School Of Hard Knocks.

2nd Paragraph

This should be a quote about why this occasion is important to your internet marketing promotion, what’s the goal or mission? It can be from you or someone in your company, or you could be interviewing someone related to the event.

Example: “We’re passionate about helping people change their lives,” said Steph Robey, “and deciding to move forward in a home based business is a big step for anyone. It’s not easy to discern the differences between the various business opportunities, especially online. This series was created specifically to help you understand the questions you should be asking when starting your own business. Hopefully, people will be able to learn from our past experiences – those same experiences that have led to our success in this industry.”

3rd Paragraph

This paragraph wraps it all up. You should get your keywords into the text again, and dive a little deeper into the detail of what will happen with this occasion. Also, be sure to weave into this paragraph your URL one more time. If you can include a video in your press release, put the link in the last sentence. This will increase your conversion rate 8x.

Example: Each day a new topic covers things like advice on how to become a leader in starting your own business, why very few people ever make a six-figure income in this industry, online marketing secrets, online marketing automation, and attraction marketing. Viewers will walk away with an understanding of how to turn leads into customers and the 9 questions you should be asking before starting your own business. The series is available free at www.SelfEmployedAndRich.com. Click here to see a video preview of the series. http://tinyurl.com/mqovoc?t=BCPromoPRVid

4th Paragraph

The final paragraph is simply a write up of your internet marketing promotion or your business. This should be a paragraph of information specifically about your business that you should have on file. Just copy and paste it into all press releases.

Example:

About Pivot Positive, LLC.

Pivot Positive, LLC is focused on helping people interested in making a six or seven figure income working from home or anywhere in the world leverage the Internet to market their passive income wealth education and information package. Pivot Positive is based in San Pedro, CA with virtual offices anywhere in the world where an Internet connection is available and the owners wish to travel. Visit www.MeetStephAndDave.com

Step 4: Distribute Your Press Release

It’s so much easier now to distribute a release than in the old-school days before the Internet. Trust me. Create an account at any or all of the following sites and start copying and pasting your text from your text document into the forms of the distribution site. Once you’ve logged-in it will be apparent what to do.

A few extra tips:

www.WebWire.com will distribute your release the quickest, within about 15 minutes.

www.24-7PressReleases.com allows you to attach a video, which will get a higher conversion rate. Google loves videos so this will help you rank higher, organically.

Sites for distribution:

www.free-press-release.com

www.prweb.com

www.prlog.com

www.MarketWire.com

www.BusinessWire.com

To see my release, just google Steph Robey, or Steph and Dave Robey, or “Self Employed And Rich” with the quotes around it like you see here. Hopefully, I’m in Goog’s good graces and show up : ) Press Releases are the best way I've found to quickly get your internet marketing promotion into the Google search results.

Good Luck.

Be big! Pass it on.

Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Everyone, 2009 is a new year and I'd like to create a new forum category to jazz things up! In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category. I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above? Thanks

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - [quote:31qpen1j]This is just my opinion, but I consider the prospective categories, Online Marketing, Internet Marketing and Online Promotion, as being pretty much one and the same - just different words that different people use.[/quote:31qpen1j] I completely agree! Those are all just "internet marketing" as far as I am concerned. And I normally would have voted for internet marketing, however I chose social media marketing simply because there are more than enough IM forums out there already.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
