SEO Positioning or PPC Marketing: You Can Only Choose One.

There are two sides of online marketing:

PPC vs. SEO

a. The slightly awkward, a little rough around the edges, SEO Positioning that speaks in code and works really late at night

b. The smooth talking, nicely dressed, PPC Marketing, consuming numbers and spreadsheets like the entertainment section of the NY Times

PPC cost more and is immediate so you can measure results right away. SEO is less expensive but takes longer so you’re never quite sure if it’s working until you’ve spent a good chunk of change down the road.

As an Internet Entrepreneur, I’ve learned the best results come from both. I start with the PPC campaign to gain visibility in the search engines and to identify keywords that are the best to target for SEO. Once the SEO campaigns show good results, I reduce the PPC spend, but I don’t eliminate it.

Here are a few of my tricks:

#1 - Do solid keyword research first. Understand the difference between:

* Broad match. Keywords with similar phrases and relevant variations.

Dog: Puppy

* Exact match. Keywords for exact phrases exclusively.

Hound Dog.

* Negative match. Keywords that eliminate some variations.

Dog: but not “hot” dog

#2 – Take the time to write compelling ad copy.

Focus on benefits rather than features. Remember WIFM. (What's In It For Me?) That's all your visitor is thinking about.

# 3 - Create relevant and highly focused landing pages even if it takes a million unique pages.

Given the choice, SEO Positioning or PPC? You should choose to do both so when Google slaps you, you’re still in business.

Be big! Pass this on.

In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category. I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above? Thanks
