Do I have what it takes to succeed with a home based business?
I don't know you, so I obviously have no idea, but I can tell you there are three distinct personality traits that I've found are consistent with successful work-from-home dads, and by successful I mean earning six figures or more per year.
Trait #1: They are willing and able to be coached. These men can set aside their ego and allow someone who knows more about the subject, someone who knows the exact steps required for success, to teach them and mold them into a viable entrepreneur. This is tough for some, especially if you were raised to believe that real men don't ask for help. But if you really think about what's at stake - your future, your family's future - it shouldn't be too difficult to accept the advice you need.
Trait #2: Are you 100% unsatisfied with your job, or is your present work situation not that bad after all? If you don't have a burning desire to steer your own ship, you will very likely fail, if you try at all.
Trait #3: This is the most important of the three. We can lie to everyone around us, our wives, our friends, but we can't lie to ourselves, no matter how hard we try. The question is, do you have the balls to see this thing to the end? If you go at it half-assed, you're done, might as well not even bother. Are you willing to put your integrity on the line and do everything in your power to be successful? Know this above everything else: there is no silver bullet, no magic bean, no foolproof system. Like everything in life that's worth a damn, if you work hard in your business, you will succeed. If you don't, you'll become another one of those guys hunched over his desk, watching the his life tick by on the time clock.
Not everyone's cut out for running his own business. But for those men with the courage to move forward in the face of fear, to ignore the naysayers, to do whatever it takes to be a better dad and husband... those are the men who live life on their own terms. And coming from a man who has experienced both sides of it, let me tell you... there's no contest.
You go around once, brother. Make sure it counts.
