What Cold Calling Taught Me and Why I don't do it anymore.

"Hey, Diane. This is Michele. How's it going?" Sound familiar? If you've said those words before, you most likely have done cold calling. I went through high level training and the pain of it "sort of went away". And yes, maybe I grew thick skin. It taught me something that took me by surprise. It catapulted me into a direction I didn't see coming.

It taught me that I did not want to call leads and beg for their lousy tire kicker business. I remember calling a hundred people a day and barely getting to talk to one or maybe five. On a good day I might have even talked to ten people. What I found even worse is that they usually didn't want to talk to me. They lied that they had requested information. They wanted to know where I got their number, and acted as if they had no idea how their name got out.

I held my posture, I walked them through a perfect opportunity. 95% of them were not switched on enough to see good thing when it came knocking. They were skeptics and didn't see value in much. Maybe they were waiting to win the lottery. I know people who are extremely successful at cold calling. They only build a business by talking to strangers who avoid their calls. I found out - it was not for me. I wanted more.

If it weren't for this experience, I wouldn't have improved my posture and mindset so quickly. I learned how to talk to people without lead depravation oozing out of my mouth. I was coaching with one of the industry's best mentors. He said, "It's time to generate your own leads." No more buying leads again. That was it.

Cold calling taught me to find a better way. I searched for a way that would allow my husband and me to work on the internet. I looked up "attraction marketing" and that changed it all. I wanted to generate my own leads. I wanted people to attract people who asked me to personally call them. I wanted to talk to smart qualified leads.

A road that winds is always uncertain. But if followed with certainty, it will surely lead you down the perfect path. I learned how to use internet marketing in combination with attraction marketing and leads come easily to me. I have found a system that has pleasantly surprised me. I plug into training that keeps me informed of how to be an internet marketing expert. It shows me step by step how generate thousands of leads at a fraction of the cost I used to pay for high quality I bought from someone else.

Our business will never be the same. We can work with smart qualified leads who are interested in working with us. Thank you cold calling. Thank you to the mentors who said expect more. We found what we were looking for, a perfect match to quality business partners. We now show others how to generate their own leads. Expect more. You will find it.

We are a husband and wife team who were at the end of our rope. We had given up our six figure jobs to start a brick and mortar business and invested upwards of a quarter of a million dollars to end up with absolutely nothing at the end of a seven year push.

We had to pay off debts, and start over with virtually nothing to stand on. All we wanted was to work at home so we could raise our kids and work from anywhere in the world.

We searched for the answers on the internet. We found it! At first we were a bit skeptical and after doing our due diligence we realized that we had found an education platform that would allow us to learn, earn and turn our dreams into reality.

We ordered the system and went to work as it instructed. We had results immediately. It was simple, easy, and we could learn how to market anything, to anyone, anywhere in the world using the internet.

We haven't looked back. We have been extremely fortunate to find something that can educate us and set us up for life. We are passionate about sharing our knowledge with others who are looking for big changes in their life. Re: How to develop sales contacts? Re: How to develop sales contacts? - Everyone has the right idea here. Depending on your business, there are different techniques that you could use. For consultants and sales heavy businesses, there are three tactics that I have found especially useful in my business: 1. Attend Networking Events 2. Cold Calling 3. Referral Program 4. Affiliate Program (most successful) The affiliate program was successful for me, as I hooked up with a franchise consultant, and he gave multiple unit businesses that needed my credit card processing services. I highly suggest you hook up with a sales partner, and give him a cut of the monthly revenue.
Re: Direct Mail Postcards Re: Direct Mail Postcards - Post cards would be really expensive to send from Japan...but one way to advertise that is not expensive from overseas is by Cold Calling using cheap VoIP equipment. I know Japan has a really good internet connection, so as long as you are willing to stay up late, it might be an option. I cold call from Thailand far, far away from any city using a CDMA wireless internet connection and have had pretty good results. I find tho, that cold calling works best for business 2 business (b2b), rather than b2c products. --matt
Re: Cold Calling Re: Cold Calling - As long as people are out of jobs, you'll probably have a lot of people who say they want to work for straight commission, but if they don't get paid fairly quickly, they usually move on. We've run into that and went through about 500 people (whose resumes looked really good) until we found about 3 good resellers. People just don't want to work for anything. Or they do a good job getting the business but don't do the follow up necessary to make the sale......so they move on thinking they need money NOW. Our business requires all cold calling as well. It's really tough for people to perfect that but there are a lot of good books out there. On is Cold Calling Techniques, by Stephan Schiffman
Re: Second attempts at entrepreneurship Re: Second attempts at entrepreneurship - Hey Kevin, That is a great idea. I'd love to hear and learn about what other people failed at before find their success. As far as family goes, I err on the side of just let them know that the mortgage is going to get paid no matter what. My family know that if I say I'm going to do something, I do it. It hasnt always looked pretty but after 10 years or so, I dont have to ask for anyones feedback anymore... Even my failures all work out to be something beautiful. ;0)
Too Successful for Marriage? Too Successful for Marriage? - Hey Everyone! This is one of my favourite topics so forgive me if I rant... There is a huge piece missing in all of these discussions and that is, what are the men doing/going to do differently? The focus is always on the women and how we have created this but in reality in the men who have become obsessively insecure about 'their' roles in the relationship, etc. Perhaps if there were more education or relationship coaching for men, it would help. Right now, the majority of information is focussed on the women. Men clearly dont know what is 'expected' of them anymore. These arent our fathers times. There was an article in Men's Health last year which was actually promoting the fact that men can relax a bit and be 'taken care' of by their successful wives and girlfriends. Give me a break - if I was single and I wanted to take care of something, or some-one it would be my business or my dog. Men these days seem to have lost all THEIR Ambition and drive. If they, the men, could catch up with the women in self esteem, empowerment etc., we'd all be much better off. I think women, while wanting a relationship, are doing the right thing in remaining single until they find a confident and self secure partner. I dont think women are looking to be the BREADWINNER all the time, but we shouldnt get punished by it. J
