Becoming An Online Entrepreneur: Wring Out Your Old Habits

Becoming an online entrepreneur requires many changes. The two most important areas where you have to make changes are your thinking and habits. At times, the challenge of making these changes will seem overwhelming. But given time, you will settle into the changes and they will become part of who you are. This process is much like the settling a new house goes through.

A New House Experience

After Thanksgiving of last year, we moved into our new house. We watched it be built from the ground up, from digging the hole in the ground for the foundation, to the house being ready for us to move in. Our builder does a 30 day check after you move in. They visit you to make sure everything is working like it’s suppose to, and if there are any problems, they fix them.

Jonathon, the builder representative, came by our house the other day. We had a few things to tell them about. One of our complaints was condensation on the aluminum windows. The condensation was so bad, puddles actually collected on the window sills and you had to use a towel to wipe them up. Jonathon said that he gets that complaint all the time, especially during this time of year (winter, not that you have much of a winter in Texas). We had a couple of “long” bouts of “very cold” weather that were unusual for this time of year. That’s when we noticed the condensation the most.

It’s A Physics Thing

Jonathon explained that the reason we had condensation on the windows was because of the humidity in the house. The inside of the house is warmer than outside, so the windows sweat as the temperatures try to equalize.

It’s the same principle when you set out a glass filled with a cold beverage. Because the surrounding air temperature is warmer than the beverage, the glass will start to sweat as the beverage and air try to equalize their temperatures.

The humidity in the house is high because all the materials in the house have water in them, from the framing, dry wall, paint, etc. So if you were to pick up the house and wring it out like a towel, tons of water would come out. As the house dries out over time, there is less humidity. The house begins to settle, and if the house is built well, the integrity of the house will “tighten” and improve. The condensation on the windows will eventually stop.

Human Nature Mimics Science

Although it’s more about human nature than physics, the same concept happens when you become an online entrepreneur. If you were to wring yourself out, you would squeeze out a quite a number of old habits you have to replace with new ones. As you replace the old habits with new ones, there will be fewer old habits to squeeze out and clean up. And, you’re building your integrity as an online entrepreneur along the way.

Although becoming an online entrepreneur may not always be easy, rest assured that as you wring out the old habits and make the necessary changes in your thinking and habits, you are becoming better. Before you know it, you’ll be rocking the house.

Happy Business Building,

Yoli

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - [quote:31qpen1j]This is just my opinion, but I consider the prospective categories, Online Marketing, Internet Marketing and Online Promotion, as being pretty much one and the same - just different words that different people use.[/quote:31qpen1j] I completely agree! Those are all just "internet marketing" as far as I am concerned. And I normally would have voted for internet marketing, however I chose social media marketing simply because there are more than enough IM forums out there already.
