You want to make sure that you are always aware of the latest techniques of course but you should also be familiar with some of the older ones that have already been successful in marketing. The big difference with Internet marketing is that when you advertise online your advertisement will always be there around the clock.

This can be very different from advertising in other perhaps older methods. If you run an ad to sell perhaps a physical product or maybe one of the many home business services out there, it is often only there for a certain period of time. Once your advertising campaign ends you then have to rely on your customers remembering you and coming back. This is a very hit and miss approach so traditional methods would be to start anther campaign at more expense and hope for a good response. With Internet Marketing, once you put something out there online it will be there for a very long time.

If you know of an existing business that is particularly successful you might be able to explore the techniques that this company has used. This is a great way to find techniques that are out there and working. Some of your rivals might be using a great technique and this might be something that you can benefit from as well.

As previously mentioned, a traditional ad campaign can be expensive but with Internet Marketing you only need to build a list of interested or existing customers and an easier means of keeping in contact with them. Email marketing is something that you can easily use for this purpose. When you use email marketing you will be able to offer a newsletter or other promotions to help keep your business name fresh and to keep in touch with your existing customers. You can offer information and also promote your business.

You may have lost touch with some of these customers so when you run an email campaign, these customers may well have lost your contact information and be delighted to here from you again but the main luxury on an email campaign is that it is free. Sending regular emails (not too many) is a great way of keeping in touch with your list.

You can use a combination of different marketing techniques and test your responses so that you can change what isn't working and develop what is. This can really change the way your business operates. You can increase traffic which is of course the whole point of Internet Marketing, to get more people to your site and increase your business turnover and profits.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.

The one thing I might add for clarification to readers is on point number 4 concerning "dominating" search results. I always like to clarify the importance of dominating for a variety of well researched keyword phrases that ideally target your ideal buying audience. Sometimes people misunderstand and think the objective is too dominate all top 10 spots for the same keyword. The reason this is not wise is that anyone successfully dominating all top 10 spots may actually be reported to Google Abuse because the purpose of a search engine is to display a variety of choices. Competitors can become quite upset with a company who is dominating all top 10 spots for the same phrase. I realize you know this already, but just thought I'd throw it in for anyone new to SEO. A better way to "dominate" is for a variety of very well researched phrases to pull in multiple audiences of readers. Great post Jenny. Thanks
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.

You sound like a very enthusiastic person who likes what she does and in Internet Marketing that is very important and you also sound like a 'people person' which is great. Internet Marketing is time consuming and challenging but can also be extremely rewarding and hopefully profitable. I don't know how many forums you have signed up to but this is one of the best.
