ATTENTION: Work From Home For Moms
I find it interesting people automatically assume that if you are a working mom it is because you have to in order to help your husband support the household. Along with the assumption comes a sense of “what a pity”. Though this may be true for many working mothers, it is not the case for all.
There is a group of women who find fulfillment in having a career. This doesn’t mean they do not love motherhood or are not devoted to being the best mother they can be to their children. It means their life would be lacking something if they didn’t have a job outside of motherhood to perform. I happen to be one of these women.
I acknowledge the fact being a mother is the most important job I do in my life. However, I also believe with the right balance you can have a life outside of motherhood. The key is finding a flexible job to fulfill your business cravings while devoting the appropriate amount of time to your family.
Working from home makes balancing business aspirations and motherhood responsibilities possible. By working from home, moms can schedule work around family life. This will only work though if you:
1) Make a plan
2) Work the plan
3) Ensure a good return on your investment.
Making a plan means sitting down and establishing the daily activities and designated time frames to move your business along. It is imperative you create allotted times for the activities you are to perform or else your day will fly by on motherly activities and you will feel as if you had no time to work the business. There is always time. You just have to plan it.
Next, you have to work the plan. If you designated a specific three-hour time frame each day where you are going to work your home-based business, stick to it. Make sure you have arrangements for your children or teach them to have quiet playtime in their rooms for the time period. You also may want to look into the “Mommy Time Out” or “Mommy Morning Out” type of care services where you can leave your child for two-three hours for a nominal fee. Many churches perform these services as well.
Let me stop here and address the notion of leaving your children at such places as mentioned. This does not mean we are not devoted moms. The very fact we have decided to give up our jobs/careers to be stay at home moms proves otherwise. We are finding the balance between motherhood and satisfying a business craving which if not satisfied, we may become stir crazy and leave stay at home mom status to go back to the business world.
Moving on to ensuring a good return on your investment. I am not necessarily talking about the investment of money, though it is important to make sure you pick a home-based business that is not draining your family’s pocket book. More importantly, I am referring to the investment of your “precious” time.
Remember the reason you have decided to work from home is to schedule work around personal life. Every second you invest in working your home-based business is a second taken away from your family. Therefore, make sure the return on your time investment is worth it.
How do you assess return on time investment? Well if you are spending many hours in the evening and weekends throwing parties only to receive maybe $200-$500 for your efforts, is this really worth it. Evenings and weekends are prime family time and you are off selling cosmetics, candles, decorative items or diet supplements.
Pick a home-based business that allows you to work smarter not harder. An internet marketing home-based business is a great option. This is the route I have taken recently.
I am tired of all the traditional MLM products requiring endless parties and begging friends and family members for leads. I found a company who is teaching me how to market on the internet and while teaching me, I am making money. You will not believe how easy it is even for those with little computer skills.
In conclusion, moms work from home! Don’t feel guilty or think you are any less of a mother because you want a life outside of motherhood. It can be done. Just make a plan, work the plan and make sure you are getting a good return on your “precious” time.
