Finding Ways to Do What You Love
Great, now that you know that being passionate about what you do will guarantee some longevity and success, how do you get started? Well, slow down, because first you are going to have to figure out what it is that you are passionate about, or at least what it is that you like to do.
Usually the things we loved to do as children are still the things we love to do as adults. Were you the leader of the pack - the girl who had the last word on everything? Chances are you still have "it", the thing that caused the other kids to single you out as their leader.
Or, maybe you were the ideas guy, always coming up with new ways for everyone to get into trouble with their parents and teachers. Were you one of those guys and gals who could talk anyone into doing anything?
Perhaps you were like me and -given any random topic- could write a poem or short story (hmm, maybe I can turn that talent into Blogging for dollars). Think back and try to remember what it was that you were good at and if you're confident that you still have it, then this could be your way out of the Matrix (you know: the world that's been pulled over your eyes to blind you to the truth?).
Another way to put a finger on what moves you is to create a list of what your God-given talents are.
- What do you have an affinity for?
- What is as easy to you as breathing is to most people?
My eldest son never had any music lessons, yet he can play most instruments, and can play just about any song by ear. My middle child first saw Michael Jackson's Thriller video when he was two, he hasn't stopped dancing since and is now a professional dancer and choreographer.
My palms get sweaty at the thought of speaking in public, but if you love nothing more than a roomful of people hanging on your every word, then public speaking may just be your talent.
Did you decorate your dollhouses as a child? Do you rearrange the furniture and change the colors and textures of fabrics in use in your home, based on the season? You know that there are those who would pay you to do that for them.
Once you have a list of your talents ( and BTW if you got stuck on that ask some of the people who know you best to help you identify what you are good at), you will need to add to that list. Add those things that you really love to do, that you may not have a natural talent for.
I like to cook, but I don't do it much; I also love to make things and decorate my house but I don't do that much either, oh well so much for things you love to do - just kidding.
Once you have your list together, you will be able to take a look at it and see if doing anything on the list would make money and also serve your higher need to be of service (we all want to be of service, we just don't realize it, what fun would it be to do everything so that you're the only one who appreciates it? After all we can't all be Paris Hilton).
If you are still not sure what it is that you are passionate about, just do a Google search on "finding your passion". There is a wealth of information in various blogs and articles on the internet. There are even websites where you can take tests to figure out what you have an aptitude for.
