Using Your Thoughts to Achieve Financial Freedom

Guest post by: Denise Porter

Article Overview: Remember that you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Even when nothing seems to be going your way, or your business or career seems to be on hiatus: "As a progressive and evolving being, man is where he is that he may learn (and) that he may grow; and as he learns the spiritual lesson which any circumstance contains for him, it passes away and gives place to other circumstances."

Using Your Thoughts to Achieve Financial Freedom

This then is the single most important concept offered here - the power of your own thoughts and how you can affect your life and circumstances through the use of your mind.

"Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound. The man who does not shrink from self-crucifixion can never fail to accomplish the object upon which his heart is set. This is as true of earthly as of heavenly things. Even the man whose sole object is to acquire wealth must be prepared to make great personal sacrifices before he can accomplish his object"

In the quest for financial freedom what can average Joes like us do to harness the power of the mind as a means to this end? What follows are a few keys to the millionaire mindset that you can take away and adapt:

Remember that you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Even when nothing seems to be going your way, or your business or career seems to be on hiatus: "As a progressive and evolving being, man is where he is that he may learn (and) that he may grow; and as he learns the spiritual lesson which any circumstance contains for him, it passes away and gives place to other circumstances."

That which you focus on expands and grows. So think about the thing (s) that you want and not the thing (s) you are trying to get away from. One year I made a lot of money but did not pay my quarterly taxes as the self-employed should and rather than focus on making tons more money to cover my back taxes, I kept thinking "Wow, come April 15th, I am in so much trouble". And you know what? I was absolutely right.

Another example is people who talk about being fat all of the time. They focus on "fat" so much that they will never be anything other than "fat". If you want to lose weight then remove the word "fat" from your thoughts.

Think Kind and Happy Thoughts. Refrain from giving that motorist the finger, do not resent your ex or any person you feel may have wronged you. Bless and release these people and salute the divinity in each and every one. "The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his power for good. Even the ordinary trader will find his business prosperity increase as he develops a greater self-control and equanimity, for people will always prefer to deal with a man whose demeanor is strongly equable."

Adopt an attitude of gratitude. Greet each morning with a prayer of thanks. You can start by being grateful that you woke up (unlike those listed in the obituaries) and are in a position to say a prayer of gratitude. Give thanks for what you already have and also for what you are about to receive.

Remove words and phrases such as "lack", "debt", "can't afford" etc. from your mind as well as from your everyday language. "Achievement, of whatever kind, is the crown of effort, the diadem of thought. By the aid of self-control, resolution, purity, righteousness, and well-directed thought a man ascends; by the aid of animality, indolence, impurity, corruption, and confusion of thought a man descends."
