5 Essential Steps To Start Your Home Dropship Business
1. Product research
The most important step that defines your success or failure with a dropship venture. Often underestimated. The research should take enough time for you to get the feeling of the market, demand, competition, prices.
Tools and websites that are your helpers with the market research:
eBay Pulse
Amazon top sellers
Keyword research tools (samples – WordTracker, Wordze)
Google Insights for Search
Google Trends
2. Product suppliers
You have a choice. You can search for dropship merchants online, you can approach companies that make lists of dropshippers and verify the information (samples - SaleHoo, Worldwide Brands), you can go and find some local wholesaler ready to dropship your orders.
3. Test the market
Your home dropship business can and should start with testing the product sales on eBay and some other affordable low budget auction and classified sites. Once you see sales and potential it makes sense to develop your own e-commerce website and devise a business plan to promote it online with PPC, SEO, e-mail marketing strategies.
4. Grow your dropship business
Implement your SEO/ PPC/ e-mail marketing strategies to take your dropship business to next level. With your product and market knowledge that you have got while going through the above steps it should be easy for you to grow finding new markets, target traffic sources, etc.
5. Expand to other niches
If you spot more profitable niches or the niche you run your dropship business is relatively small it makes sense to replicate your success and experience with other products – and probably grow beyond your home business hiring some staff and renting an office and warehouse to keep some stock in-house.

Books for Women Entrepreneurs
- There's a thread for good books in the Resources folder, but it doesn't target books for businesswomen particularly, so I figured I'd start such a thread here.
It doesn't matter how successful you are in your business - it's always possible to learn something new.
In subsequent posts I give Table of Contents and brief descriptions for various titles - most of them devoted to the businesswoman - and sometimes a review. If anyone else has read a review, or has read the book and found it useful, please comment!

Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It?
- HI,
I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business.
It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need.
