Adding a blog to your website is a great way to boost your ranking in the search engines -- the search engine spiders love fresh content, and a frequently updated blog will keep them coming back often!

A blog is also a great way to keep in contact with your customers and put a "human" face on your business. After all, it's unlikely you'll ever have any face-to-face contact with your customers, so showing them you're a real person can be invaluable.

Here are a few Internet marketing tips and strategies to help you start your blog and turn it into a traffic magnet!

First, you have to choose which software you'll use. Here are some choices we recommend:

• Blogger -- this is Google's blog platform, and it's very easy to use. Just sign up for a blog and you'll be posting in five minutes!
• Typepad -- this software charges a small monthly fee and is a bit more sophisticated than Blogger.
• WordPress -- this system is better for more advanced Internet users, as the software is a bit more complex. However, it's free, so there's no harm in trying it out!

One of the best Internet marketing strategies is to pick a name for your blog that relates to your business, and includes your top keyword, if possible. Say, for example, your website sells fish food. You could call your blog "Best Fish Food" or "Cheap Fish Food" -- whatever best describes your business.

Keep in mind that one of the most important Internet marketing tips and strategies is that you must post on your blog regularly for it to be valuable. People won't keep coming back if there's nothing new to read! Try to post something every couple of days, or at least once a week.

Your blog posts don't have to be perfect, or long, to be effective -- bloggers tend to use a chatty, informal tone in their posts, and often write posts of under 400 words.

niche forum categories - I think Kevin just touched on the point that I was going make... and that is developing 'categories' that stick. Sales and Marketing may be too broad for example. However I can almost guarantee you that you would see many more sign-ups if you tailored a category to 'internet marketing' for newbies. I've seen this work on other forums, however, [i:1i903wkn]it can get a little frantic[/i:1i903wkn]... Fine tuning the categories, or expanding the scope should be effective. I think a lot of IM folks are surfing right on by because they're not finding what they're looking for here... The signature links to their site - if they have one - can / should be motivation enough to get more involved. The more internet savvy members that have signatures seem to stick around more... Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy - Hi David, I agree about the Blogosphere. You have a smaller group that Blog, but do so on the premise that they think they should, but have never really considered the purpose of their Blog. Then I think there are a few SEO or Internet Marketing types that see Blogging as just another link building strategy. But the largest group of Bloggers, tend to be people who enjoy writing and discussing their topics of interest. Blogging is good for link building, but the true Blogger is a breed apart from the rest. They want to dialog, to debate, to have feedback and they are very willing to link to other worthwhile conversations that are relevant to their topic. I agree with you. These group of Bloggers obviously are passionate about their writing and together, they create huge conversation trails interactive and travel from Blog to Blog. But the evidence is clear with this group that loves what they write about. With comments enabled on a Blog and having a Blog tuned to a specific purpose you already have the evidence of original Social Media.
Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.
