Frustrated Network Marketer - Needs vs. Wants
it be okay if I shared with you the most important lesson that every network
marketer needs to share with their new distributors? I learned this lesson on a Tom “Big Al”
Imagine that you on a coaching call with your new distributor. Joan’s all excited because she knows that your business is going to fuel her dreams and goals. She’s ready to tell her family and friends about this exciting opportunity.
You start the call by stating “Joan, I’m so glad that you’re excited about this business. Your enthusiasm and motivation is essential to your success. But before you talk to your friends about this business, it’s important to understand the difference between needs & wants.”
Joan has a quizzical look on her face. “Needs and wants? What’s that”? You then say, “We all need to go to the dentist, but do we want to?” Her answer, “No-o-o-o!” “We all need to exercise, diet and eat healthy food, but do we want to.” Her response, “No-o-o-o!” We all need to pay taxes, but do we want to.” Chuckling she responds, “No-o-o-o!”
You then tell her that it’s perfectly normal to need good things and not want them. When she talks to her family and friends, many of them may need your business, but won’t want to do her business.
They are perfectly normal. Her business is only with the people who want her business, the volunteers.
So how does she find the volunteers? She look for huge groups of negative people, a.k.a. “family and friends” according to Tom Schreiter. Once someone starts to whine and complain, then she can ask them “Would you like to do something about it?”
For example, Joan’s at work and her colleague is complaining because he just got his phone bill and his daughter needs braces. She would ask him “Would you like to do something about it?”
If he says yes, Joan can tell him about her business with the one minute business presentation. If he says no, leave him alone. It’s a rejection free ice breaker, she only shares about your business with people who want to know more, the volunteers.
With this simple lesson, your new distributor will transform her experience with network marketing. She learns that her family and friends are normal even if they aren’t interested in her business. She discovers that her business is with the volunteers, people who want her business.
Focus on the volunteers and you will create a hugely successful network marketing business.
