How to find prospects and build a successful network marketing business
Do you ever wonder how the people who get the big checks in your MLM company do it? What do they know that you don't know?
They have the same compensation plan as you have. They go to the same opportunity meetings. They often use the same brochures and websites. Yet they are getting huge bonus checks and you aren't. Why is that?
I wondered the same thing. And I didn't figure it out until I got some training from Tom "Big Al" Schreiter. He said that the only difference is that the people who get the big checks have skills. They know what to say and do to get people to respond to their opportunity.
Skills?! Skills in network marketing? No one told me that I needed skills to make money in network marketing. I thought that I could build this business in my spare time.
Well, I've discovered that that's the problem. Network marketing is like any profession and it takes skills to become successful and see the results I want.
Tom Schreiter emphasizes that using ice breakers are the key to finding prospects for your MLM business. Your ice breakers must be 100% rejection free. You can't embarrass others and they must have a good chance for success.
So what do you say to find prospects? Imagine that you are at work talking to a colleague on your coffee break. She's complaining about not having enough money. You turn to her and say "Joanne, I just found out how to get an extra pay cheque every week. If you'd ever like to know how, I'd be glad to tell you.
Meanwhile, have another donut."
Now you may be thinking, that sounds great, but I'm a mother at home with children. What can I say to other mothers? Well, let's modify this statement. Imagine that you're at the park with your kids. You turn to your friend, another mother and say "Jennifer, I just found out how we can stay at home with the children and get a full time pay cheque. If you'd ever like to know how, I'd be glad to tell you. Meanwhile, let's go play with our kids."
In both examples, the key phrase is "I just found out." It stops prospects dead in their tracks and they totally focus on what you are saying. If they're interested in your opportunity they'll ask for more information. If not, you continue the friendship. There is no pressure.
Tom Schreiter says he only gives business presentations to people who want to know more about the business. He uses ice breakers to find out who is looking for opportunities. Then he takes the volunteers.
Imagine never having to make the "dreaded list of family and friends" to call about your business opportunity. Imagine only talking to people about your business who ask you for information.

With job uncertainties being almost a guarantee more people are taking a look at starting a network marketing business to help them financially if they should lose their job. Not only are mid-career people interested in starting a network marketing business but many employees nearing retirement. As retirement draws near they realize that they may have not saved enough to keep a comfortable lifestyle, after all, there is only so much you can cut back on. The best time to begin a network marketing business is while you are still employed so you can take time to learn how the business operates.
A lot of people interested in a network marketing business who call me ask what are the advantages of network marketing over a franchise or just opening up their own store. There are many advantages but the two largest is cost to start and portability. The typical network marketing opportunity usually takes around two hundred dollars to start. Some are as low as ten dollars. It is just a matter of what type of products you want to be involved with. For example, if you are in to nutrition and are already are taking a good quality product you could easily switch to purchasing your nutritional supplements from your network marketing company and spend no more than you are already used to.
Network marketing businesses are totally portable as long as you have a cell phone. Since communication with your members is necessary to build your business you can do that anywhere you have a cell signal.
Just like any company, network marketing companies have an organizational structure. Once you join a network marketing company you become part of that structure. When you join you join with a sponsor. It is the sponsors job to train you on the ways of your particular company and their ways of promoting the business. Each good sponsor has their method of promoting the business that has made them successful available to teach to their new people. You may meet a sponsor who is new to the company just like you are and has no success yet. In that case you would be trained by that persons sponsor and learn together. Literally people helping people.
When you begin to grow your own network marketing business you will have people join with you and they will be placed, within the organization, on your front line. The front line is made up of the people who join the business with you so they become your business partners. Usually successful sponsors have a set method to building their groups, such as, a super 4 or super 6 team. That means that the pay plan for your particular company is optimized with that number of people on it.
The best way to make money in any business is to optimize the pay plan. It is similar to working in a job where productivity is important. When the productivity is the highest is when the most money is made in the most efficient manner. The teams that I work with have a spillover policy that helps everyone make money and makes the organization the most productive that it can be. Whenever anyone goes over the six people on their front lines they assign them to a position with someone who doesn’t have their six people yet. Actively managing the group in that manner has proven to be beneficial to everyone.
So if you are considering starting a network marketing business you will have a better chance of success if you first, find a company that offers a product that you like. Then most important right after the product is to find a sponsor who is willing to work with you to help you succeed. If you like working on a team toward a common goal you will love network marketing.
