How to relieve stress during a job loss

It's pretty obvious that we are in the midst of a recession. The unemployment rate of 9.7% is the highest it's been in 25 years and in August 216,000 Americans lost their jobs. You may be one of them. How do you deal with this situation? It's important to realize that your attitude determines your experience. Do you dwell on the negative and blame others? Can you see anything good coming out of this recession for you and your family? It certainly is challenging to find anything positive in a lay off. You're dealing with survival issues of how you will provide for your family. Your feelings of anxiety and worry are totally understandable. Honour your feelings and acknowledge them. But don't stay stuck in your negative feelings. Develop a plan to cope with the instability in your life.

There are many tools and strategies to relieve stress. Choose the tools that work for you. It's important to maintain regular physical exercise. Go for walks or go to the gym. You may not have the funds at this time to continue your gym membership. Check out community recreation centres in your city. They usually have a nominal fee and may offer reduced rates for people with a low income.

Don't isolate yourself. Connect with positive people who support you emotionally and who you can support as well. Connect with people who will lift you up when you are down. Create a safe place for yourself by choosing non-judgmental people with whom you can vent your concerns and worries.

This is a great time to learn some new coping tools. You may want to learn some new breathing exercises. Breathwork will help you shift your energy and release stress and anxiety. Batting is another strategy to implement when you're feeling anxious. Kneel by your bed and bat a pillow with a plastic bat. Ensure that you are alone so you don't disturb your family.

Gratitude is crucial to to thriving during this time of uncertainty. What are you thankful for? What possibilities can you be thankful for? What's working in your life? Keep a gratitude journal and each night list everything that you are grateful for.

When you express gratitude for your blessings, you will discover creative solutions for your situation. You can use this recession to create a better life for you and your family.

Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? Re: Would you pass on a media opportunity? - I think you shouldn't let an oppurtunity like this pass, since I must say, this is very very rare and you are lucky enough to be a recipient of one. By short notice, I think you should try to review the basics of the business or whatever it is that might be a possible question that the interviewer will ask you. Aside from this, I think you should relieve yourself of all stress that can really cause you nervousness or what is very foreboding: a mental block.
Re: What are you doing if o have a bad day? Re: What are you doing if o have a bad day? - If you're looking to relieve some stress or just take the edge off from having a bad day, I highly recommend buying an original Nintendo NES with Duck Hunt. You wouldn't believe how much fun shooting virtual ducks on the TV can be. If I get mad or just have a bad day in general, I just pop it in and play for a while, trying to beat my high score. It's great to do something different every now and then and take your mind off of your problems.

Re: Help needed in starting a company in Patent Analysis Re: Help needed in starting a company in Patent Analysis - It is well worth while running the question about the software tool by a lawyer - particularly since the existing company is going to be harmed several fold - i.e. loss of staff, loss of customers and perhaps loss of unique rights to the tool. My gut reaction would be to name a spokesperson to speak to the senior manager about the issues - without mentioning any threats of leaving, names of your future partners, competing or use of common tools. For sure you will run into them later so it makes sense to attempt to resolve differences now and only when it becomes impossible to do so or the opportunity to create a new firm becomes so attractive that you actually do leave. I don't envy you .... Terry
Re: Hot Stock Tip! Re: Hot Stock Tip! - So if $10.86 is the highest the Freddie Mac shares went, your stop loss (cut and run) price (at 25% down from the high) is $8.14 (if my sums are right) so you're position is no longer exposed - provided you stick to the system and don't get emotional, oh, and are also able to execute quick sale as soon as your share price hits the stop loss figure!!! GOOD LUCK!!
