Blog to Promote Yourself and Business

Guest post by: Carrie Langstroth

Article Overview: Blogging can be an effective marketing tool. However, blogging solely about your company will not garner the positive you are looking for. People who read blogs want to read about something interesting and personal. Forget the self promotion and gain the trust of your readers.

Blog to Promote Yourself and Business

Using a Blog to promote your business is a very effective marketing tool. What is great about using blogs is that you can promote your business absolutely free. There are many places on the Internet that you can set up a blog without it costing you a single penny. With a new business it is important to maximize promotion without spending all your profits on advertising and marketing. Using a blog is one of the methods that you can use to promote your business without it breaking your budget.

Here are a couple of steps to follow when posting your blogs: Add visual interest to your blog by putting pictures in the sidebars that depict your products or services. Publish blog posts that instruct your potential customers as to the benefits of your offerings, and be sure to include specifics. Make your blogging style warm and friendly, so that customers will want to do business with you. Be sure to sign up for Technorati and other blog cataloging services so your blog will be found. Adding tags to the end of each post will also help those searching for specific information to find you and your blog.

The primary purpose of blogs is to provide information. Providing a great deal of information is the key to a successful blog for businesses. It will draw people that would not normally visit certain sites come and read your blog. After reading your blog on a regular basis, visitors will naturally go and visit your business site. Use the blog as a portal to get traffic to your website and not as a big advertisement. You are still marketing your business but not in a pushy way. It's a fabulous way to promote your products or services.

If your strategy is to create a blog solely about your company and its services or products, give it up. You won't get many followers for that kind of self-promotion. The amount of trust you will earn from readers will also be very low. Search engines love blogs but only if those blogs get links from other sites-and an ordinary product blog won't get very many. Traffic is nice, but are the people visiting changing their attitudes about your company or buying your products? If your blog generates leads, links, positive reviews, buzz, or PR, it's probably worth keeping. If it doesn't-or you can't figure out how to measure its value-then it may be more cost-effective to shut it down.

So in order to make blogging work for your business, try following the above steps that are sure to catch the eye of potential customers. Just remember that blogging can also harm your business by attracting negative attention. The best way to stay away from negative attention is to make your blog more personal than business oriented and make people want to visit your site because they feel comfortable with your blog.

Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy - Hi David, I agree about the Blogosphere. You have a smaller group that Blog, but do so on the premise that they think they should, but have never really considered the purpose of their Blog. Then I think there are a few SEO or Internet Marketing types that see Blogging as just another link building strategy. But the largest group of Bloggers, tend to be people who enjoy writing and discussing their topics of interest. Blogging is good for link building, but the true Blogger is a breed apart from the rest. They want to dialog, to debate, to have feedback and they are very willing to link to other worthwhile conversations that are relevant to their topic. I agree with you. These group of Bloggers obviously are passionate about their writing and together, they create huge conversation trails interactive and travel from Blog to Blog. But the evidence is clear with this group that loves what they write about. With comments enabled on a Blog and having a Blog tuned to a specific purpose you already have the evidence of original Social Media.

EvanCarmichael.com suggestion EvanCarmichael.com suggestion - Maybe I missed it but I would like to suggest that a Blog be created to support the Forum. The idea is that in the blog you put in snippets of some of the biggest conversations with a 'read more' link to the forum itself. Setting up the Blog and clipping some conversations onto it wouldn't take very long.
