How to Manage Your Home Business around Vacation

Vacations are a dream come true for kids but they can be a nightmare for the parents who have a home business. There is a lot to be said about the peace and quiet one gets used to while the kids are in school. Then again everyday is not a Sunday, right?

There are pros and cons to having a home-based business. The biggest advantage is that you are there on call and at hand to attend to any and every problem. The biggest disadvantage is that you have to fit in work with everything else like grocery shopping, answering the door, attending to the phone, the tradesman, or the postman, performing daily chores like cooking, cleaning, washing, and tidying, and attending to sick kids. And, to add to all this you have school vacations and Christmas too.

Your small business requires your undivided attention at all times, so you need to keep vacation dates in mind when organizing your schedule. School vacations are a given, so one can plan around the dates well in advance as you can do with Christmas.

Prioritize, Plan and Proceed

There are lots of ways in which one can keep children occupied during vacations other than Christmas.

It's good to teach children responsibility from a young age. It not only gets the job done but also keeps them out of mischief. Accountability is a very integral part of growing up.

Unless your small business directly benefits from the holiday season, there is no reason why your home business cannot take a well-earned break and what better time than Christmas. It's the best time to relax and enjoy all the merrymaking with your family and children before you settle down to business again come the New Year.

To manage your home business around vacations all you need is:

Re: Moderators on vacation Re: Moderators on vacation - Vacation was great! Lots of boating, swimming, sun bathing, and over eating! Yes, I am having a heck of a time getting re-focused. I've been back for over a week now and still haven't gotten a single thing done business wise. To make it even worse, I am in the process of planning another 10 day vacation for next month so my mind isn't coming out of vacation mode.
Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - HI, I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need.
