How to Market with Twitter

Marketing with Twitter is a great way to build your online empire. There is a revolution that is occurring which involves the use of the social media networks. Web 2.0 properties such as Twitter are being used by everyone from Larry King and CNN, to celebrities like Sean Combs. If the people who are in the public limelight understand the power that lies in the click of a computer mouse, then who are we to think that we can sit on the sidelines. The reason that a number of business owners are not at the center of this social media frenzy is just because they do not know how to navigate the strength of Twitter. Following the 2 steps outlined below should help to erase some of the confusion that some home business owners face each day.

The first item that all Twitter marketing pros should learn to do is to build friendships. As a small business owner, you probably already know the value of building relationships. It is not enough to just ask a customer to buy something from you once, but the goal is to earn a customer that will buy from you on a continual basis. This can only happen if that customer has a relationship with you and your business. A great way to make this happen is by communicating with them via Twitter. Tweets, as they are called, are messages that are sent out to anyone who is a part of your circle of followers. These tweets can communicate anything that you desire to your customers. The key to being successful with this technique is to share things via your tweets that make you relatable. You do not want to just sell items with Twitter, but your goal should be to create friendships with your clients. Tweeting about current events such as the World Series, the current economy, and any other newsworthy events show that you are a person. Showing this side of your character will allow your customers to trust, like, and understand you better. All customers tend to buy from people that they trust and know more easily.

Secondly, once you have earned the trust and respect of your customers, the goal should be to expand your marketing message to the masses. For example, if you have a letter that you send out to your customers each month, add your twitter URL to that letter stating that all customers who send us tweets from 12 to 2 each Thursday will get a free gift the next time they visit your company. This will increase the money that you earn, build your list of Twitter followers, and cause your presence to be built on Twitter as the authority in your field.

In summary, Twitter is dominating the small business arena in the year 2009. The only question is will you put the aforementioned tips in use this week to increase the revenue of your company, or will you let your competitors become the figures who capture both your current and new customers because they have mastered this form of social media marketing.

Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? - I'm sure in many cases Twitter sends more traffic than Search Engines because most people don't have good enough SE rankings to get SE traffic. But anyone can get Twitter traffic. The problem is that Twitter traffic won't convert for the most part and SE traffic will. I'd venture to say that 98% of the time getting just 100 visitors from search is better than getting 2000+ from Twitter.

Re: How should i promote a new website? Re: How should i promote a new website? - ignore this message IF it's already been stated. I haven't had a chance to read all the replies and i have to jet from the office... I suggest marketing where ever your Target Market congregates. If it's a forum of concerned parents - go there. Strike up a deal with the forum owner (JV) and have him promote it to the list of members (Integration Marketing). If you want to go with Forums then i would partner with a parent who is a frequent poster/moderator on a particular Target Market Forum and have him/her add your link to their signature. That was just a thought but it's not as intense once you get buy in from the Forum owner or high ranked poster/moderator. Hope that sparks some new ideas.

Re: Social Media Works If You Do It Right... Re: Social Media Works If You Do It Right... - Hi Michelle, Ah, but it seems hashtags are still being used by a lot of people - including Twitter! So I would still use them for your keywords. It's just that if you are searching for something on Twitter you can either go the #hashtag route, or do a direct search on the Twitter homepage. I guess you could use #hashtags when searching on the Twitter homepage as well! DH
