How to address Consumer Fear

Recession has been the bloodcurdling cry for over a year now. The economic downturn that followed froze many business owners in their boots, vaporized several large and ancient business houses, and rocked the very base of the world economic system. The consumer was caught in the middle of this maelstrom, with no apparent source of refuge as their steady pay checks either disappeared or became increasingly unsteady.

Within months countless were homeless, jobless, or unsure of where their next meal would come from. Under such hostile conditions, invariably consumer confidence shriveled and was immediately replaced by consumer fear - the fear for livelihood.

The industry is poised on the consumer's readiness to buy its goods and services; however, fearful consumers are seldom ready to spend on goods and services unless they are indispensable. The resulting economic paralysis has by now been analyzed and cross-analyzed - all hoping to pounce on the first glimmer of dawn of the next economic boom; which we hope is just around the corner.

In this tense scenario, we find that the survivors are mostly small businesses and home-based businesses. These businesses have and are coming out stronger than before. These businesses have learned to tackle consumer fear with insight and sensitivity. By readjusting their business plan, cutting frivolous expenses (down sizing), they retained customers who already being familiar with them where encouraged to stay loyal by four wise and prudent offerings.

These are detailed below.

Occasionally, wrap the above keys in some extra service or free useful product, and you will conquer consumer fear at least within your business's sphere of influence.

Another addition to your customer base is customers who were left high and dry by other businesses that shut down during this time. They need somebody to go to and your business can be ready to receive them with ease. Another source of strength to your business is your foray into new business segments.

Contact Information Contact Information - I've been amazed at the number of people who have blogs and/or websites to promote and there is no contact information. What's the point of having an online presence presence if people can't get in touch with you???? I don't list my phone number or home address - but my email address and Post Office box is on every page of my websites at least once and my email address is in my blog profile. The other "fun" option is when people do provide an email address, but its out of date and inactive or they only check it every week or two. Seems that these people can't be overly serious about the product or service they are promoting. Any other thoughts??? Shri

Shri[/quote:1vwh33rf] Hi Shri, I think a lot of those people are probably new to blogs or the use of online communities as they're probably more guarded against things like spam and identity theft. You mentioned that you even include a PO Box address. How important is it to have a "physical" address for people to contact you or send you stuff when you own a blog?
Re: 7 Top Blog Design Tips Re: 7 Top Blog Design Tips - Great tips again, Tyrone. Instead of posting an email address you could use a form service, such as the one offered by Bravenet.com. That is what I use on my websites. It prevents a lot of spam and you don't have to show your email address.
Re: Free Web Biz Banner Tool - Hide Your Email Re: Free Web Biz Banner Tool - Hide Your Email - [quote="MichelleJ":35nueg1u]Hi GT and Alan Thanks for the tips on cloaking your email address, I have bookmarked them to look at when I am finished here. MichelleJ[/quote:35nueg1u] Sure thing. I highly recommend cloaking your email address whenever you can. Spammers will get a hold of your address if it's on your website and not cloaked. It happened to me. Alan
Re: Direct Mail Postcards Re: Direct Mail Postcards - I have found that the best way to get your direct mail opened is to make it look like a friend mailed it. In this case, you have to decide which is more important; quantity or quality. To get things to look less commercial you have to hand address them or find a machine that makes it look like it's been hand addressed or it will go straight into the garbage (better know as file 17 - and I have no idea why 17), anyway, why waste a good lead. Even if you pay a teen-ager to address envelopes for a few hours everyday, you'll probably get a better response than sticking labels on or just printing them by machine. Don't include a return address. This peaks their interest because they want to know who it's from. I know I would. Do this can increase your response greatly depending on the type of product you are selling.
