Free Download - Develop Social Media Sites for Personal Branding By Carrie Langstroth |
Creating a blog can be a great way direct people to your website. Although you should not make your blog about your business but rather more personal, there are still key points you need to address. If you are going to go to create a blog and want people to follow along then follow the steps below. By including these steps in your blog post you'll have a much better chance of making an impact.
- First, ask a question. By asking a rhetorical question at the beginning of your blog post you will engage your reader. This will make the reader think and there will a greater chance they will continue to read and follow along.
- Second, share a story in your blog. The goal is to hold your readers attention. By sharing a quick story or anecdote you can make your reader laugh. It is also a way to establish the main point in your post.
- Third, invoke the mind's eye. Engage your readers imagination by using expressive words like 'imagine', 'picture this', etc. If you use this technique at the beginning of your blog post, it will create a powerful opening.
- Fourth, Use an analogy, metaphor or smile. These are great tools used in telling a story. Use this technique to capture your reader's attention. You will provoke their imagination, thereby allowing them to tell the story themselves.
- Fifth, share interesting facts. Only share interesting facts if they are unique. The factoid should be relevant to the blog post itself though. If not, it will throw your readers off.
- The closing. To create a great blog post you must have a great closing. You should always tie back to your opening when writing your closing. If your post is wrapped up nicely your readers will be more likely to bookmark it on various social bookmarking sites.
In order to make your posts more visible, be sure to tag your posts on del.ico.us and then highlight then on Squidoo lens. If you really want to be noticed, be sure to include trackbacks from to other blog posts with similar topics.
After you've written your blog entry, be sure to include these four things at the end of your post. 1) Ask your readers to subscribe, 2) Offer Social Bookmarking options such as Digg and Del.icio.us, 3) Provide feedback options, and 3) Include and ad or two.
There are so many techniques that can used to write a great blog. Before you start make sure you have done your research and you know what you want to blog about. By writing stuff that people want to read and share, you will have a much better chance of having others read your posts. Don't forget that word of mouth is the best way to gain a new audience. Make your posts interesting and your readers will share your post with others.
