Internet marketing has fast developed as a potential to sell what you have, what you know, what you can do or what you can get done. It does not matter which field you belong to, if you can sell it, you can do business in it.

For something to be visible in all those millions of wannabe entrepreneurs on the internet, you must have that extra something that will make you stand out. You need personal branding.

Without personal branding your line of business may not be as effective. You have to strike the right note to attract like minded people to your business. A rapport built up on this right note will tell the people whether they want to be your customer or not.

For any business to be successful there are a few basic requirements, such as:

• A product that you want to sell
• Admin support to launch your business
• Logistic support
• Finance
• Promotion and advertising
• Lots of research and hard work

For any internet marketing business to prosper, you have to meet these few basic requirements. Additionally, you need to include personal branding in the list.

Why is personal branding essential?

One aspect of internet or online marketing that few have grasped is that not everyone is vying to become a business person. They have problems that need solutions. If you can establish yourself as a person who can give them the confidence to find the promised solution, soon you will be the most sought after person on the internet.

Personal branding tells prospective clients that you know what you are talking about and that you will be able to provide guidance so they can reach their goal.

Don't forget that there are millions of online entrepreneurs who are already in this business and you have phenomenal competition. Personal branding will help project you as a person and not an impersonal website. People are more comfortable when they know that they are dealing with a human and not a general website, where they are just one in so many.

You need to learn the right techniques so that personal branding will help you move in the right direction into the world of internet marketing. For example, "Search Engine Optimization" is a technique that can help in promoting you on the first page of the results of a search carried out by a person looking for some type of information or assistance on a search engine like Google.

A personal brand will attract attention because it tells others that you have the required confidence and you are not afraid to reach out for what you want.

If you put yourself on the internet, you need to stand out and personal branding is the way to do it. Your name becomes synonymous with trust and reliability.

For example, a trip to the video store proves futile because you are looking for a certain actor and there are no movies available. The actor is the personal brand and your certainty that you can't go wrong is the trust he/she has built up in you.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.

You sound like a very enthusiastic person who likes what she does and in Internet Marketing that is very important and you also sound like a 'people person' which is great. Internet Marketing is time consuming and challenging but can also be extremely rewarding and hopefully profitable. I don't know how many forums you have signed up to but this is one of the best. The support and guidance you get here is what makes it the success that it is but as I am sure you know from looking at the side bar that there are many aspects of business that are catered for here which will help you along the way, best wishes, Mal.
Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.
