Social Media Marketing Effective Advertising for Your Business

Social Media Marketing is the method of using social influencers, social media platforms, and online communities for marketing, public relations, and customer service. Some of the more common social media marketing tools include Twitter, blogs, LinkedIn, Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube. One of the major benefits of advertising on a social networking site is that advertisers can leverage the users' demographics and target their ads appropriately.

When small businesses empower their target consumers, they feel powerful. When your target market feels powerful, they trust you, buy from you, and stay with you. Small businesses can ignite collaboration for marketing by creating their own communities and/or joining communities. By doing so, they can listen and connect to their target customers and build a free forum to bring their market together.

The key thing that small businesses need to remember when using social media to help sell is that efforts must have value. There has to be value to your content, community, and execution to get people to engage with you or your organization. Social media doesn't sell things -- people sell things. Engaging in social media marketing starts the relationship-building process. Social media takes time, understanding, passion, effort, and commitment to make it work. Give your small business an authentic voice with social network marketing and watch your potential customer base grow.

Here are some reasons why you should consider using social media marketing:

  1. It's natural. Not only do you get natural links without any discernible pattern, your website is exposed to large groups of people in a spontaneous fashion. This differs from paid advertising which has overt commercial overtones. Social networking offers a sense of community where direct sells is not necessary.
  2. It's defensible. Once successfully mastered, social communities can be a great source of web traffic on top of any traffic you are already receiving from search engines. While you can't easily increase your search engine traffic, social media traffic can be very easily controlled through strategic marketing.
  3. It's low-cost/high returns. If done by you, costs are limited to only time and perhaps the expenses involved in hiring a freelance programmer/designer. The benefits will often exceed the cost. It would take you thousands of dollars to buy many links; social media has the ability to give you that for free.
  4. It complements other efforts. Social media optimization and marketing is usually community-specific. It doesn't interfere with any other methods of getting traffic to your website. It can and will fit perfectly with an advertising campaign targeting other websites or search engines.
If your business is in need of that extra push to receive the extra income, give social networking a try. There are many, many options available out there and using them does not have to be difficult. If you are unsure of how to use these tools, check out one of the many tutorials available online or try hiring an agency to manage these sites for you. Either way, you will not be disappointed with the results.

Social Media Marketing Ignorance Social Media Marketing Ignorance - I was recently consulting with the head of marketing for a firm in the medical engineering field (actually a great field to be in at any time) when I couldn't believe something that the client blurted out. "I am not interested in that Social Media stuff - its for kids, teenagers!" I sat back - little did he know that 95% of what I was about to tell him had to do with his so-called "Social Media crap." I took a deep breath, and proceeded on. This company was dying. They were stuck in old Advertising methodologies that were dying as well. I almost couldn't believe it when he admitted to me that they hadn't done very much online at all over the years (in terms of marketing). Roughly 45 mins later, not only had I persuaded this individual (an incredibly smart man I might add) into laying out an online marketing plan, but I had explained to him how social media marketing is very likely 'here' to stay. So it just makes me wonder - what do people really think about Social Media Marketing? Personally, we utilize tools like Twitter and Facebook everyday to make new business relationships and strengthen existing accounts. Print ads? We own a number of businesses and haven't taken one out in years. And if you follow the "teenager" comment - I have tracked numerous studies and articles that show "teenagers" actually aren't using Twitter that much - its a 'simpler' tool of sorts, for an older or 'more seasoned' crowd we might think (haha). Just some thoughts, we personally pick up a newspaper maybe once or twice a week still, but how many times just in the last hour have we sat down to the computer or used the cell phone (as a text tool)?
