If you are a business or a marketing person, twitter can turn out to be a lot more than just a social marketing network for you. There can be no better way to increase your business than through twitter. If you take the time to understand what twitter is all about and play all your cards right, there is a huge chance that you would build up an extremely valuable network and customer base for your business. Twitter today is among the best social media marketing options available to businesses.

Start with setting up your account and fill in all the information. Write about who you are and what you do for a profession. Do not forget to put in a link to your website. This alone will generate a lot of traffic to your website and people will get acquainted with your products and services. The biggest advantage with social media marketing is that you can reach out to customers on a global level which is otherwise not possible.

The next thing to do is to make full use of the twitter search tool. Use specific keywords to find people who might be potential customers for your business and follow them. By following other people, you make yourself known. Also, several of the people you follow might follow you as well. This is called networking and building up on your followers. It is important to have a large number of followers so that you have a larger audience to market your products to.

Just having followers isn't enough though. You need to keep your followers interested in you. Keep sending out tweets often. And, send tweets that might be useful to your followers. Don't do direct marketing by just sending out tweets that only talk about your product and your business. Send out market updates, valuable information and articles in the industry, offer advise to people occasionally and send out links to other websites that might be useful to people.

Even if you don't have regular access to a computer, you can send out tweets through your cell phone. You can even schedule your tweets in advance if you are travelling. There are several tools that enable you to tweet regularly. If you come across a tweet that was posted by someone else but you think might be useful or interesting to people who follow you, you can re-tweet it. But, don't just copy and paste it as your own tweet. Be credible enough to cite the source from where you are re-tweeting.

To make a long story short, if you explore twitter and all its potential, you will find there are endless opportunities to reach out to millions of people that are hidden in this unique networking tool.
