When you own an internet business opportunity, it is very important for you to set up your office ergonomically. Ergonomics is the systematic and interdisciplinary study of human beings and their material connection with the work environment.
Though computers have made significant changes to the way we work, it is extremely necessary for us to change the manner we work with them. As a result of not preparing, now most LNI claims are due to computer injuries caused by poor ergonomics.
While setting up your work place, you should closely consider ergonomics which attempts to regulate the work setting to suit you. If your office is set up ergonomically it will enhance the work efficiency and decrease your chance of injury.
With any internet business opportunity, it is necessary for you adopt the right posture while you carry out your repeated business activities. This will help lower the danger of injury.
To take stock of ergonomics in your office, start looking at various areas like working posture, telephone use, paperwork, and computer, lighting and working conditions. This article aims at providing some useful tips on setting up your workstation ergonomically.
- 1. Setting up computer: You should position your computer so that you sit at arm's length from it. Keep your monitor either at or below eye point. This will put a stop to any kind of weariness or stress caused to your eyes. Also if wearing computer glasses or bi-focals, make sure your head and neck angle is natural for you so it is not stressed. Many monitors now are movable up and down, closer or father back as well as tilt. This should be strongly considered if you are going to spend long hours at your PC.
- 2. Adjust chair and table: it is very important to adjust your chair and table since you will be conducting most of the tasks of your internet business opportunity from here.
Adjust your seat height so that you are able to keep your feet flat on the floor or many prefer a slightly slanted board which is more restful for the legs.
Adjust the armrest so that you are able to avoid the contact with keyboard and desk. If your armrests are raising your shoulders, you can bring them down.
Flexible tables, chairs so that you're able to adjust the monitor and keyboard at proper height are well worth the money and time to set up.
- 3. Reduce the strain on your eyes: Make sure that the use the flat screen monitors instead of traditional CRT monitors since the variations are very high in the CRT monitors. There are also available a screen to lie over your PC screen that cuts glare.
- 4. Use headset: If you are often use phone you need to buy a headset. It will help you operate your computer without giving any stress to your neck and keep hands free to type or write notes.
- 5. Your posture: You should sit straight; keep your shoulders down and very relaxed; also with your chest open. Never cross your legs or keep your feet on the chair's legs. Look to reducing arm and wrist movement as much as possible. Repetitive motions will do damage over a time a period. Choose what type of mouse pad and mouse you are going to use. There are many styles to choose from. A good wrist support is important.
- 6. Regulate light: In order to avoid stress your eyes, you should switch you overhead lights to those florescent natural light bulbs or tubs in the direct work area. You can also use curtains or blinds to cut light that is bothersome during part of the day. Your light needs to come from behind you and not be pointed at your face.
- 7. Clear the clutter: You should clear the clutter from your work area. This will give you freedom to move about without any hindrance.
- 8. Clean the desk: Make sure that you remove all the unwanted books, papers or any other items which you don't use regularly. A rolling chair to go between computer and desk can be a great help. Saving money on your chair may not be too wise.
- 9. Within reach: You should keep the necessary documents in front of you. The items that you often use, like calculator, phone, stapler etc. should also be placed within easy reach.
- 10. Work exercise: At least once every hour you should stand up and stretch. You can do shoulder exercise or roll your head from side to side. Drink adequate amount of water. I suggest you use a one hour kitchen timer as it is so easy to get lost in your work. When it goes off, get up and walk around, do some stretches and head and shoulder rolls, get some water (hopefully not coffee just to keep going) and a small healthy snack for your blood sugar, keeps the mind sharp.
The above mentioned tips will help you run your internet business opportunity successfully by keeping you healthy and comfortable. Don't forget the set up considering your style, do you like plants, photos of family, color or quiet tones. Make your work place as comfortable and convenient as possible. As a business owner you will be spending a lot of time in it.
