Article Overview: Money and your life. Why do we work? Is it to amass lots of the greenbacks for their own sake? Not really most of you would say. So what is it that makes us work so hard to get the rewards of money? Ask your self these questions to determine your values about money. Motivation for success can partly be attributed to these values. Well grounded values are the basis for success and activity.

In high school years, I lived and studied as an International Rotary Exchange student in Annecy France. I had the good fortune to go to Italy a number of times. I visited Rome, Florence, Capri, Sorrento, Verona and Venice. A year or so later I was studying Italian at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. One day I was sitting in Italian class and our teacher was going over vocabulary words and short texts. The story was about a man you was on the beach enjoying the sun and the waves. Another man comes up to him and says, I have a great plan to show you how you can enjoy sitting on the beach in the sun and have lots of money. Woken from his relaxation, he sat up and said, “Perche? Sono gia qua alla spiagia! Non ho bisogno di tutto questo!” and he fell back into his deep relaxation.

Well you ask now, ”what did he say”? If you are familiar with the Italian language, you know that the Italians and most Europeans have lunch from 12-2 and work till about 7 or 8 pm in the evening. But there are a large group of people around the world who probably at one point or another adopted the philosophy that the sun shines everyday, I can enjoy the beach, the mountains, the earth’s delights without having a lot of money. So why have money? Why go through all that society requires to have the $$$ on the piece of paper in the portolio on the computer?

These are questions that you need to ask yourself about money. Each of us have our won values and beliefs about life and living that we can form our own life philosophy. Sometimes this is difficult to actually do. However I we travel and live a little, explore our earth and our community, we will soon find out what it is that we like and dislike. FAIL FORWARD FAST is a good technique to use to find your values I you are not sure. Use this strategy: Think of something that you think you like, for instance being active (as opposed to being more calm and quiet). Immediately choose an activity that it’s the value category and go and do it. Then immediately reflex upon the experience. Did you like it? Did you not like it? Is this truly part of who you are?

This combination of thought, activity and thought will lead you to your values.

MONEY AND VALUES

Now using this with money is the same. Decide if the activity required money and how much? Could it have been done without money in some fashion? Or did it absolutely need money? Could you have done the activity with others, thereby not needing money? Or did it still require money?

Once you have determined the amount of things that you value that are couched in money, you will see what it is that you value about money. Perhaps money bring you a feeling of security, or a feeling of safety or the knowing that you can always afford to buy what it is that you need, want or cannot make yourself.

Money has always been around in some form or another. Tobacco leaves were used at one time, gold pieces, a barter system of trading items for items, shells, and silver or other precious stones and other things too. The system of currency developed for convenience and ease of transport. Currencies can be kept on a person with relative ease.

Re: Clarity Trumps Persuasion - Jeff, Thanks, great stuff !!! Clarity or "KEEP IT SIMPLE" is probably the best advice anyone can ever give or get when involved in any business or personal situation. Over 30 years of manufacturing ladies apparel has taught me two critical business lessons: 1-You will never get a 100% perfect outcome so In the BEGINNING,take your time, exhaust all your resources and energy and plan, plan, plan. . . If it STARTS off right it you'll get close to the desired outcome. 2-Keep it simple I now will add "Clarity" to my formula for success. CLARITY AND KEEPING IT SIMPLE BREEDS SUCCESS . . . . I know the advice above is simple but isn't that what it's all about.
