Wealth Management
There are seven fundamental steps and principles that David Bach covers in the book Smart Women Finish Rich. In the course of this series we will begin to look at these areas and principles. We will also covers the fundamental steps to personal wealth management.
Personal Wealth management is an area that touches on the technical components such as stock market investing, insurance coverages, savings rates, real estate investing. It also touches on the emotional and psychological aspects such as your beliefs about money and wealth. And further it includes the intellectual aspects such as the ground work in research and reading that is necessary to be able to make educated financial decisions for your own portfolio or for that of clients or your own family.
The technical components of wealth management lie in the simple idea of saving money first of all. Once a portion of the money is saved, then actively using that money to put it to work to the best means possible, that of course which garners the highest rates of return on your investment. This concept is a simple one, but it does take due diligence in seeking out the companies , stocks, bonds, real estate and currency investments which do yield the sought after rates of return. Not only is it vital to keep track of emerging markets but also established ones. All markets contain volatility and thus need to be studied on a regular basis.
Whether you are a long time investor or relatively new to the market the amount of experience coupled with your emotionality or objectivity balance out to determine your investing style. Each person is different in this capacity, some people can be highly objective whereas others are much more emotionally tied up in their investment decisions. A long term view as well as a thorough understanding of the investment that you are making is vital to maintaining your capital base as well as systematically growing your overall portfolio value. Whether that portfolio has all real estate investments in it or is a mixed bag of tools also depends upon your values, beliefs and goals.
Timing is a great factor that needs to incorporate patience for the movements of the markets. Warren Buffett is a great example of this concept. He will be in the market buying stocks, bonds, companies et all when other are fleeing due to dropping prices. A sense of fearlessness is required to be able to buck the tide that is rising against oneself. This is not always completely possible but the more one does this the stronger one gets doing it.
And finally the intellectual components of reading, researching and making determinations for buying when the timing is the best are all necessary time consuming endeavours. It is best to never just jump in the market on a hot tip, so to speak, lest you get burned! Doing what many call your own “due diligence” brings the best results. In the long term, when one does ones homework well, learned what there is to know about an investment, being sure that you are dealing with people of integrity and honesty first and foremost, selecting a portfolio of prime investments can be done and done well.
All women who are interested in education, patient to a high degree, flexible and cautious in bear markets as well as bull markets, can learn, research, make choices about which way to go with their money to build a nice retirement portfolio.
