Article Overview: Everyone has different thoughts when they think of the internet. For me, when I think of the internet, I think of marketing. And, like most things in life...there's a right way and a wrong way. If you get this right, you can have success beyond your wildest imagination! Get it wrong and...I promise you, it can be one of the most frustrating things that could ever happen to you! I've been on both sides of the fence and I can tell you..."right" is a LOT better!

Successfully Marketing An Online Business

When we think about the internet, there are a lot of things that come to mind. To sum it all up in one word, I think the best word would be...information!

I dare anyone to choose a subject and then not find any information about it on the internet. I think it would be near impossible. And, if you knew me, you'd know that the word impossible is a word that seldom comes up in my vocabulary.

Since I happen to be an Internet Marketer, when I think of the internet, the firs thing that comes to mind is naturally...marketing! Of course!

Most everyone have heard the expression, in order to make money...something has to be sold. But since we're talking marketing here, let's take it a step further. In order for something to be sold...some form of marketing has to take place.

I'm not going to go into all the various forms of marketing. That would take pages and pages. Instead, what I'm going to talk about is the "correct" way to market. Like most things we do in life...there's a right way and there's a wrong way.

Where most people make their first mistake is by not putting themselves in their prospects shoes. For example:

• You may have the greatest product in the whole world! (or, so you think)

• You may have the greatest compensation plan in the whole world! (or, so you think)

• You may have the greatest looking website in the whole wide world! (or, so you think)

Guess what? Nobody cares! That's right...nobody cares!

Don't believe me? For those of you who know a great marketer (among many things) by the name of Perry Marshall, here is something that he said. Most of you in the business already know what I'm going to say here. But, for those of you who are new, his words went something like this:

If a man goes to the hardware store and buys a drill, he didn't buy it because he wanted a drill. He bought it because he wanted a hole! Think about that for a moment. He did NOT want to buy yet another tool. He wanted to buy a solution to his problem.

That's what marketing is all about...finding solutions to people's problems! The man that bought the drill needed a certain kind of hole. His problem was, he had no way to make that hole. So, he bought a drill that would make that kind of hole, and that solved his problem. Everyone's happy!

Whatever you are trying to sell, you need to put yourself in your prospects shoes...and then, ask yourself a few questions. What problem does my prospect have? What can I offer him or her to solve that problem? What would be the best way to present my solution?

When you know the answers to those questions...you can call yourself a Master Marketer!

How can you become a Master Marketer? It all starts with research. And that's one of the wonders of the internet. If a person is willing to spend the time doing research...they can find most anything that they're looking for.

I would start by doing a search on "internet marketing". You'll find that there will be websites about this subject in the millions and millions. By viewing a few of them, you'll be able to narrow your search more and more by putting in new search terms.

If you keep doing your research, you'll find a reputable company that can teach you what you need to know to become a successful marketer. But you can reach your marketing goals even faster if you find a successful person and then follow them. In other words...do what they do.

You've heard that you should never try to re-invent the wheel. That statement holds true here as well.

How do you find a successful person to follow? Once again...you do your research. You see, success leaves clues. It's easy for a "nobody" to stay hidden. But, it's hard for a "somebody" to hide! If a person is successful, you'll be able to do a search on this person's name on the internet and you'll find them.

When you find the person you're looking for, continue your research and see if they sound like the kind of person that you'd like to work with. Try to make contact with this person. If you can reach them on the phone, have a conversation with them. You'll know soon enough if you have anything in common or not. If you do, then that's a good thing. If you don't...then by all means, keep looking. You will find the right person if you try.

There you have it. When it comes to marketing an online business, there are really just two things that you need to do if you want to learn how to market correctly.

1. First of all, you need to do your research and find the right learning platform.

2. And then, you need to find the right person to team up with that is willing to work with you.

The right learning platform could be a company, a college or any other coaching or teaching program. You'll find that there are really no limits once you start looking.

The right person could be most anyone. Ideally, you'll want to find someone that has a similar personality as you do and that shares some of the same beliefs. This is something you'll know once you connect on a personal level.

Becoming a marketer is an exciting and rewarding journey! There will always be room for those that have the desire and determination to make it! If you've got what it takes...I'll see you "at the top" and not "from the top"!

Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Everyone, 2009 is a new year and I'd like to create a new forum category to jazz things up! In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category. I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above? Thanks
Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.

Moreover, it would probably be called "Online Marketing" instead of Social Media Marketing".[/quote:p78047w2] Okay - I have a request -- can the title be changed to "Online Marketing"? The reason I'm asking is because people may not know what social media marketing is , while that would make me vote for it to learn more, but not every thinks like that. Also, online marketing could capture more attention when people spot in on the list. Shri
