Empowerment, keep your power.

After a tough time in my life when I felt that I lost control of my power, I was in debt, broken and bruised by the world. Or so I thought. Then I see the stories of women who have gone through so much more. Take for example, Georgene, a breast cancer fighter and one of my closest friends. Georgene has had to fight cancer twice in her short 32 year life. The first was Thyroid cancer that she ended up losing her thyroid and now must take a prescription on a daily basis to keep her body running, for the rest of her life. Then a year and a half after much fighting with doctors to get a lump checked in her breast through biopsy. Even with the doctors telling her in their 30 years of practice they have never seen this type of lump be cancerous, she fought and fought to get the test. Turns out she was right, it was cancer in fact an extremely aggressive form of cancer that in the short span of 2 months while getting scheduled for chemotherapy increased in size by almost double. While most people would have had a breakdown and "thrown in the towel", she has moved on in her life. “This cancer doesn’t define who I am. I’m not going to live like I’m sick,” Georgene says. “I’m not breast cancer, and I hate pink.” Since I have known her she has never been a fan of pink. Through her strength of positive thinking and knowledge that no matter what is standing in her way; cancer, doctors, or treatments she was going to fight and still live her life. She is the keeper of her power against all odds.

So how is it to stay "powerful" during hard times? It can only come from within us. No one and nothing can take it away from us. Empowerment comes from inside of us through choosing love over fear. In most cases we lose our power because we are scared of the reactions of others if we behave / say / or did what we wanted and thought was right. How many times in your life have we known another women or ourselves to put your family before herself in all cases to a point of exhaustion and loathing? Worried that if you take some time for yourself the family will fall apart. How many times have we known someone to stay in a job that is not a match to our moral fiber? Everyday is worse than the last because we are afraid of what will happen if we empower ourselves to follow our internal desires and let go of the fear that is holding us back.

Doing what is right is not easy. Suzy Orman, also known as "The Money Lady", has a 3 step approach to her gatekeeper of money. I believe that this gatekeeper transcends money to everyday life. 1. Is it kind to you, 2. Is it necessary to you, 3. Is it true to you. This is not about being selfish, it is about enabling others and depleting your power. I wish I had this information when I had a gambling boyfriend (past tense). I did not ask myself these questions and thus made the situation far worse, because I was afraid. Afraid of what would happen to him, me and us if I did not provide the financial bail out. I choose out of fear instead of out of love. Bailing him out was only making his issues easier to deal with and thus enabled him to continue the cycle.

People who believe that violence is power or war is needed for peace are sadly mistaken. Ask yourself, are you holding on to dis-empowering fear in your life or are you embracing compassionate love that enables you with life affirming power. Chose the later and you will find you are a powerful women.

Women Entrepreneur Tips Women Entrepreneur Tips - Thank you LeoOliveros, I found #4 particularly true in my case: 4. The Enterprise Must Include the Power of Power Networks. As a conductor of your own enterprise, you can not see yourself as a one-woman-show. You must choose to utilize the power people in your life, by asking for help when you need it, and effectively delegating in order to capitalize on your strengths and that of your power network. When certain experts are not represented in your power network, you must actively seek advisors or mentors and develop a team of specialists, so the benefits are received by everyone involved in the power network - the true Power of Power Networks.
Psychics & horoscopes! Psychics & horoscopes! - I have never sought the help of a psychic and I deffinately do not believe in horoscopes. Although I do believe "some" psychics could hold a special gift (like the ones that help police) occassionaly, but horoscopes are not believable in my book. I I believe the power of suggestion (reading a horoscope) is the real power there. You read or hear how things should go for you and the power of that suggestion could make it happen. Your mind believes it will happen, so it does. It's Sort of like how if you fully believe you are sick (when you are not), your body reacts as if it really is, therefore developing symptoms.
Hello to the forum Hello to the forum - Hi everyone nice to be here, I found a link to this forum whilst looking around another forum and fancied a look, liked what I saw and joined. I'm newer than new and at my age to say that is refreshing to say the least! 25 years of working in pipeline construction has taken me all over the place and now it's time to seek another venue. At present I'm stuck in England but have a home in the Philippines, Panglao Island, Bohol Province to be exact, My partner Marilyn is there looking after our little business and my young kids. I hope to learn from the gurus of this forum and pass on whatever info I learn to my future followers. I welcome all advice no matter how trivial it may seem, as to my mind knowledge is power - power is revenue - revenue is a means to an end. Thanks everyone and I look forward to meeting you all very soon.
Re: How should a young entrepreneur dress to impress? Re: How should a young entrepreneur dress to impress? - Think of all the decisions you have to make at work. There are a bunch, right? Then there are the ones you have to make before you get to work -- you may not even have thought about those. One of those decisions might be whether you wear sleeves or go sleeveless at work. Do you think about that? I do. I thought most businesswomen did. (If I'm wrong about that, I would love to hear from you. Here’s a link to vote.) Here's why I'm thinking it's pretty important to know whether or not image-conscious women today go sleeveless at work: I recently spoke at a conference about success in business and what makes business people successful. I often incorporate the research that I read to support my ideas. I’m a student of persuasion, since that’s such a big part of sales, and I find that the same skills apply to successful people in business. Dr. Chris Segrin, of the University of Wisconsin, did some research on apparel. He found that in general "the more formal or high status the clothing, the greater the compliance rate obtained." What that means is that formal attire has more influence and power, less formal has less influence and power. That's what I told this audience of women. If they wanted to be perceived to have more power and influence, they might consider wearing long sleeves if they were meeting with superiors. That's more formal. Think about men in long-sleeved oxford shirts versus men in short-sleeved oxford shirts. Have you ever seen the president of the United States wearing a tie with a short-sleeved white shirt? Never. There's a perception that more skin showing (as in sleeveless) means less power. Less skin showing implies more power. People who are in a position of authority tend to comply with these rules of dress. I want to have every advantage in business. If I'm trying to persuade someone in business, I'm not showing up for the meeting in a sleeveless blouse. Would you?

You must delete the posts if you can, report them if you can't, and those with the power need to ban the member doing the spamming.[/quote:2b3c4rnk] Good job, Trent. Keep up the fight! Not dealing with spammers in the appropriate manner by banning them is not in the best interest of the forum. Those with the power to do so need to take action to protect the integrity of what this forum is all about.
