What were my concerns with Internet Marketing as my profession?

When starting out on this journey of entrepreneurship, I had heard so much about internet marketing. There is so much information about people making hundreds of thousands of dollars with minimal work hours, that it is easy to succeed in this business, that there is money flowing on the internet. Some of the rumors were true and some were false, as with all things in life.

I had many concerns about the business and how I could succeed in this field. First, I wondered about the perception that was connected to Multi-Level Marketing (one of the facets of Internet marketing) and marketing in general. I have found that when discussing internet marketing with those that are not part of the community, the business is not understood. I usually get a glass eyed stare after stating that I am in internet marketing, or others that are scared that I will start selling them on some product. In addition, those that do not understand the compensation plan of an MLM or Direct sales company will automatically have their opinions about the business, and are not afraid to tell you that they feel the business is illegal and a pyramid scheme without hearing any more about the business; then they tell you about the friend of theirs that tried to make it work 10 years ago and failed.

Next, I had concerns about who I was going to partner with, there are MLM and direct sales opportunities launching everyday. How do I chose the right opportunity? Lastly, my biggest concern was how I was going to learn everything that I needed to be successful. Did I find all of the answers?, yes!

I found the perfect opportunity for me through some trial and error. First, I joined an MLM and though the product is great, the market is saturated with nutrition and beauty products. They taught the networking portion of the business but not how to become a true internet marketing expert. It was much more of networking marketing, talking with friends and family about the product to sell. With low commissions it was going to be a slow journey to the income I was making as an HR Director. Then I found Carbon Copy Pro and had all the answers that I needed for my concerns. They teach how to become a true entrepreneur, it was a great feeling to feel at "home" with a company. When I finally said yes to completing the application, once I completed that step, I knew this was the business for me. There were no more concerns about the perception of the business, because you are taught to find the right market, not just the market you are around. The mindset training has been the most valuable that I have found. I am glad I was able to find the right opportunity that matches my personality and interests. I wish you the best of success.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
Re: Are we defined by what we do for a living? Re: Are we defined by what we do for a living? - To answer your question Kevin: In one word YES. people will defined you by your profession. It is the human nature, and we love to judge. Personally I don't defined myself by what i doing. I don't think your profession and how much money you have is defining you, it is the same as judging by sex, religion, or skin color, it means nothing.
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.
Re: Hi from a Manhattan coach Re: Hi from a Manhattan coach - Hi Julie, Welcome to the forum, it's great to have you here and thank you for telling us a little about yourself. You sound like a very enthusiastic person who likes what she does and in Internet Marketing that is very important and you also sound like a 'people person' which is great. Internet Marketing is time consuming and challenging but can also be extremely rewarding and hopefully profitable. I don't know how many forums you have signed up to but this is one of the best. The support and guidance you get here is what makes it the success that it is but as I am sure you know from looking at the side bar that there are many aspects of business that are catered for here which will help you along the way, best wishes, Mal.
Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.
