Starting a Home Based Business - The Journey across a Rough Terrain
Many people are planning to get rid of their existing jobs for starting
a home based business. They wish to switch over to something more exciting,
something that will give them a lot of job satisfaction, besides giving them the
financial freedom.
The most obvious choice before them is the business venture which they
can operate from their homes.
In spite of the strong desires, many people are not really aware of how
to begin. It is likely that one of your friends may have given you the idea to
start your home enterprise but maybe he did not give you complete information.
It is here that you should ask yourself the most pertinent question; What
is your motive behind starting a home business. Is it just because your friends
recommended it to you?
Are you
prepared?
The reasons could be many. You may want to get rid of being accountable
to your boss in your existing job. You could be inspired to attain financial
independence by doing something on your own where only you are
accountable for both profits and losses.
Before you get down to business, you will need to know if you are really geared
up to meet the challenges that you will face as you set out on your business voyage.
If you are starting a home business which is Internet based, you will
need to know about the things which will ensure the smooth functioning of your
computer. You cannot afford to have your prized asset dying on you even for a
single day. Therefore, we should learn about the best practices for protecting
our systems.
Your
strengths:
You should be self-disciplined and self-motivated. This may not be a
necessary virtue for many people since they are accustomed to working in the
safe environs of 9 to 5 jobs where they were required to work mechanically
whether they liked it or not.
You might however want to get rid of laid-back attitude even in your
existing job since the job market itself is exhibiting a plummeting trend.
It may be difficult to break away from such ways of thinking, but you will
need to adopt a different approach once you enter the home business arena.
Change
your attitude:
Many people customarily go to their office where they get down to their
routine work. They don’t ask any questions. They are not part of any
decision-making process. There are no challenges before them. They carry out
their work mechanically.
On the other hand, when you start your own home venture you are the boss,
you will be in charge of every thing that concerns your business. You will not
be able to pass the buck once something goes wrong. You will be solely responsible
for your success or failure. You will need to learn to be responsible and
accountable.
It is
not going to be bed of roses:
Finally, I want to emphasize that it may not be an easy path to tread on,
at least during the initial stages. You will face a lot of challenges. If you are
ready to work much harder than you did in your previous job, only then you will
able to justify starting a home based business.

If you can finish off the Business Plan and think about your strategic direction or how you are going to use your product to convince people it's a great idea, it will set the foundation for your programming project. You see, when you are looking for funding you will need a Business Plan and Strategic Plan that will convince companies to invest into your new idea.
Has anyone achieved this idea before using another industry besides health and fitness that you know of?
You should also design some mockups as a "preview" for your programming project. This will also help reduce your programming costs as everyone will know exactly what you want if you have detailed mockups already completed including any functionality you require.
Starting mockups for websites and software applications on paper is the best way if you're not a guru in graphic editing software.
