6 Internet Marketing Truths For the New Internet Entrepreneur

6 Internet Marketing Truths For the New Internet Entrepreneur

In 2009, it would be downright foolish to deny that using the internet for promotion is a major part of almost every successful entrepreneurial effort. Here are 6 internet marketing truths that every new internet entrepreneur must know:

One: It's all about Google!

When it comes to marketing your project online, the reality of the matter is that at least 80% of the attention you attract is likely to begin with Google. Whether you're taking part in optimizing for the best possible organic search results, relying on Local listings, or using the Google AdWords program to purchase targeted traffic for your site, it's no secret who the number one player in the web traffic market is.

Two: Social Networking is here to stay.

Some folks have been dismissing social networking platforms like Facebook and Twitter as a fad-ultimately saying that there's no need to waste your time and effort with them. This couldn't be any less true. While it will continue to evolve, social networking is here to stay and any new internet entrepreneur serious about their venture must partake.

Three: You've got to learn to write for the web.

If you'll be doing any business over the web at all (and these days, who's not?), you'll need to brush up on your writing skills, particularly to adjust to the web. While the tactics will vary depending on your niche and the reasons for your written communication, as a generality, web writing tends to be much more conversational than traditional business communication.

Four: Not all websites are created equal.

Remember the old saying, "all show, no go?" It's easy to get carried away while launching a new web presence. In particular, getting too caught up in graphics and the "look" of a website is a common pitfall. While these components of a website are indeed important, it's essential to place appropriate emphasis on the actual content and usability of the website too.

Five: A website doesn't ensure automatic success.

A website is the hub of any winning internet marketing campaign. With this in mind, it's a good idea to remember that just launching a site and then expecting positive results to begin happening immediately is not likely to take place. Effective websites are promoted and encouraged to succeed by every facet of an active internet marketing campaign. It's not rocket science, but it does require hard work.

Six: You don't need to pay someone thousands of dollars for SEO.

Organic search optimization is an incredible free traffic driving strategy, but you can learn the essentials of SEO yourself. Literally everything you need to know about SEO can be learned in a day or two with a good tutorial. Are you familiar with the 80/20 rule? Well when it comes to SEO, the 80% that produces results is based on common sense-the remaining 20% is just likely to cause more trouble that it's worth.

When done correctly, internet marketing offers the best return on your investment possible-every new internet entrepreneur should take the time to learn the ropes.
